Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

2. Wine and Cheese Tasting in Rome

Come and join this typical Italian experience in an Enoteca. The tasting is offered in a traditional wine bar, called Enoteca, located in the 18th-century Palazzetto Giangiacomo, in the heart of Rome. It is a family run wine bar that started as a wine-shop over fifty years ago and was transformed into its present state by the third generation. The wine bar shelves are lined with carefully selected bottles produced by prestigious and new wineries. An inviting selection of regional cheeses, premium salami and hams, smoked fish and a choice of hot homemade dishes complement the wine. You will learn how to drink and taste the wine as well as distinguish the differences between colors and aromas. An introduction about the area where the wines are produced will also be given in English. Examples of some perfect parings between food and wine: Try a glass of Bellone, a forgotten antique local white grape variety paired with Rome's ricotta, a rich and flavorful by-product of pecorino romano. Or taste a glass of Frascati Superiore, the white wine associated with Rome from the vineyards visible from the periphery of the city paired with pecorino Romano, a typical salty hard cheese from Lazio. You can also enjoy a glass of Nero Buona, a traditional, antique variety of red grapes, cultivated in the hills of Cori, combined with coppiette, a flavorful and spicy roman beef jerky or porchetta, a spit-roasted pig stuffed with wild herbs. These pairings are only examples of the quality of the products, and can be changed with seasonal food.

3-Hour Trastevere and Jewish Ghetto Guided Walking Tour

3. 3-Hour Trastevere and Jewish Ghetto Guided Walking Tour

The Trastevere neighborhood offers a pleasant diversion from the heavily touristed historic center of Rome. It is largely residential, and characterized by narrow, cobbled streets, medieval-era structures, and a large university student population. As you explore Trastevere on this 3-hour tour you’ll find an impressive selection of restaurants, bars, and cafés that are frequented by locals. Explore the boutiques and studios for some unique gifts. Trastevere literally means beyond the Tiber, and it was originally connected to the main city of Rome by a tiny wooden bridge. Immigrants, mainly Jews and Syrians, arrived from the East and settled in the area. The center of public life in the neigbhorhood is the Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, a large square outside of the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the city's oldest churches and one of the most visited in Rome. Visit the site of Rome’s Jewish Ghetto, which is located near the Tiber in an area surrounded by today's Via del Portico d'Ottavia, Lungotevere dei Cenci, Via del Progresso, and Via di Santa Maria del Pianto. In Italian, the ghetto was called Serraglio delli Ebrei, which mean the enclosure of the Jews. See the Synagogue of Rome in what is today a charming area, known for its restaurants and some of the best food in Rome.

Our experience with our sommelier, Luca, was fantastic from start to finish. I booked this tasting thinking we’d try some new wine and maybe learn a few facts about them... but it entailed much more than that. We learned quite a lot about Italy’s climate and topographical areas that produced the unique characteristics in the various wines we sampled. We also learned what to look for when pairing meats and cheeses with wine, which will definitely be useful in the future! Overall, the opportunity to learn from Luca and his passion for wine is something that definitely cannot be missed! 10/10, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to break away from the crowded tours and do something a little different.

Very good wines, an excellent cheese and ham platter, but that's nothing compared to the sympathy and sharing of knowledge of Giarra who made us discover each dish with an unequaled passion, to do absolutely

Excellent! Tanya is a fantastic photographer and a better person. He chose some great locations and his relationship with my 10-year-old children was extraordinary. I recommend it!
