From Budapest: Danube Bend Hiking and Kayaking Adventure

1. From Budapest: Danube Bend Hiking and Kayaking Adventure

Start your day in Budapest, where your guide will pick you up in an air-conditioned van and your adventure will begin. First, stop at a romantic little town in the Danube Bend called Nagymaros. Climb up to the scenic Julianus Lookout Tower, where you can admire the stunning panoramic view of the river. Look for traces of animals, learn about the tree species that inhabit the mountain, and ask your guide any questions you might have about Hungary. Enjoy a 5-mile hike in the calm and green forest before arriving at the riverside. Stop to enjoy a local hamburger or vegetarian lunch before setting out on the rest of your adventure. After a short lesson about safety, technique, and rules on the river, jump into your canoe or kayak and glide down the lovely and calm Danube River. Admire the beautiful mountains and see the famous Visegrád Castle from the river. If the weather is nice, stop at a nice, sandy beach and take a refreshing dip in the water. Finish your day with a beer or a refreshing soft drink at a hippie bar on the river bank before returning to Budapest.

Danube Bend: Full-Day Hiking Tour from Budapest

2. Danube Bend: Full-Day Hiking Tour from Budapest

Embark on a full-day, guided hike just outside of Budapest through the Danube Bend, including hotel pickup and drop-off via an air conditioned and comfortable van. A memorable day for lovers of nature and the outdoors awaits. Spend the day in the volcanic Visegradi Hills, where the memory of the old volcano still pervades. The volcano is no longer active, so there remains no danger. The starting point of the hike is at a tiny, romantic village on the coast of the Danube, called Dömös. Begin with the steepest climb of the day while you're still feeling fresh. After the climb, you'll find yourself on a ridge that offers beautiful panoramic views over the river and surrounding mountains. As you look around, check out the huge volcanic rocks that were left behind after the ancient eruption. After a few hundred yards more, climb to Predikaloszek, the summit with some of the best views in Hungary. This place is very famous among locals and visited the whole year through by nature-lovers. Stop for a snack at the lookout and take in the amazing scenery. After refueling, a nice and long downhill trek is waiting for you through a wild and untouched valley. During the descent, observe the power of water; see how it created ravines in the soil of the forest. Before starting your climb in the canyon, refill your bottles with clear spring water from water reservoirs. The Ram Canyon is a great adventure for all ages, boasting a nice cool climate, great depth, and waterfalls to climb with the help of ladders and rails. Head back toward the starting point filled with positive energy and unforgettable experiences. The whole hike is just over 11 miles; the trip is recommended for experienced hikes, but manageable for anyone who is in good physical condition.

Budapest: Half-Day Hiking Tour in the Buda Hills

3. Budapest: Half-Day Hiking Tour in the Buda Hills

Get off the beaten path and relax in nature on a hiking tour of the Buda Hills. Meet your guide in front of Széll Kálmán tér metro station. After taking public transport from the meeting point, the hike starts on the slopes of Normafa, where you’ll get the first amazing views of Budapest from above.  Follow trails through the woods and ascend gradually through the hills to the famous viewpoint, the Elizabeth Lookout Tower. Admire the splendid views, then continue to a small cave that is safe to explore. After passing an abandoned limestone quarry, you’ll reach the extraordinary Tündér-szikla (fairy cliff). Descend the hills and take a bus back to the city, where your tour will end.

What people are saying about Central Hungary

We had a great time on the Danube Bend hike. This is a really interesting walk through varying terrain where you can see beautiful views, walk through a peaceful forest, through a gorge and even up some waterfalls! Gyuri is the most excellent guide; he is punctual, knowledgeable and safe and he knows lots of interesting things about the nature and geology of the area and he is just a really nice guy to chat to as we walked. He even took photos for us on the way round and shared them with us afterwards, which is such a lovely memento. I would recommend that you are moderately fit and ok to walk on uneven and very steep ground as it was challenging in places, but that is what made it even more enjoyable and we had a great sense of achievement afterwards. It was the best day of our whole vacation, I cannot recommend this trip highly enough.

I had an amazing experience on the hike. Gyuri is a fabulous guide, encouraging without pushing. The hike is challenging at times but doable. I enjoyed it a lot. Advice- good shoes, bug spray. You will be in the wilderness for the whole day with no facilities but the nature. I highly recommend it for people in decent physical shape. Gyuri was raking photos throughout the hike so yiu can keep your phones inside the backpack. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Perfect day! Thank you Gyuri for being a part of my proposal to my girlfriend and taking stunning pictures. The hike was very fun and Gyuri told us lots of interesting facts. Definitely recommend!

Excellent tour with lots of breathtaking panoramic views! Laszlo was very enthusiastic and has real passion… highly recommend to book this tour whilst visiting Budapest.

Super mooie wandelroute, met veel uitdagende klimmetjes en mooie uitzichten. Gyuri is een erg vriendelijke kerel!
