Full description
Walkthrough Cartagena’s historical city blocks on a walking tour with an expert Spanish-speaking guide by your side. Discover the legacy that Carthaginians and Romans left in the city, learn about important historical sites, and see the first submarine in history. Start off at the city’s wall and stand next to the monument to Carlos III. Listen as your guide tells you the relationship existing between this enlightened monarch and the Region of Murcia. Just a few steps over, stand at the Heroes of Cavite Plaza, where a monument renders tribute to the victims of the naval battle in the Philippine waters of the same name. Walk past the Naval Museum of Cartagena flanked by two shiny anchors. Here you will get an insight into the history of Isaac Peral, the sailor and soldier from Cartagena who devised the prototype of the first known submarine. Continue to Casa del Rey, a historic barracks that housed the Army of Flanders before they left for the Netherlands through the so-called “Spanish Way”. Leave the old town section and cross the Calle Cuatro Santos until reaching the underground of the Roman Theater of Cartagena, where you will visit the remains of the Byzantine Wall. End the tour at Cornisa Park, which offers magnificent views of the impressive Roman Theater.
