    Come along on this tour and learn all about the history of this fascinating city.  Enter through the main entrance, known as Porte Narbonnaise, to the medieval city. Learn about the fortifications built by the Romans. Cross the main street, Rue Cross Mayrevieille to the castle. Discover the museum inside the castle and develop a better understanding of the Trencavel family that defended the Cathars during the Albigensian Crusade.  Walk along the top of the wall, crossing both medieval and Roman towers as you head towards the church. Hear an explanation (in English, French or Italian) about the architecture of the Gothic church and see the beautiful stained glass windows, built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Walk through the streets of the ancient religious quarter and learn about the inquisition in Carcassonne and Toulouse.

    Nathalie our guide for the visit was at the top, smiling and pleasant. She knows very well the history of the city and history in general. We had a very pleasant time. The private tour is a real plus, a guide constantly listening to us who adapts the visit to our desires. To do again.

    Nathalie was very accommodating on a very hot day. She shared many interesting facts along the way for the Cite of Carcassonne regarding history and restaurant suggestions. She was upbeat and ready to answer questions. I was surprised with the general maintenance (trash) around the perimeter. I bet it’s difficult to manage with the number of visitors. But overall the Cite is definitely worth experiencing.
