Receive a detailed briefing with many interesting facts about the humpback whales. All tours are accompanied by local biologists, so you can learn as much as possible about the amazing wildlife. After the briefing, start your quest to find the humpback whales. Get picked up at your hotel in Praia, then depart toward the interior of the island. Make your first stop at Mrs. Luisa's house. There, sample cuscuz (a traditional cake made from corn flour) and fidjós (fried banana), the typical breakfast for Cape Verdean families. After breakfast, continue to the city of Assomada. Visit its famous market, and admire the vibrant colors of the local fruits and vegetables. Move on to the Serra Malagueta natural park and marvel at the incredible views from 1000 meters (3,280 feet) above sea level. The day begins with pickup from your hotel. Head to the first stop of the tour, Rabil, the second most populated village on Boa Vista Island. Visit a ceramic factory to learn about the ancient art of pottery as well as Olaria, one of the few forms of local craftsmanship. Depart from Rabil and cross the palm-lined oasis towards the Viana Desert. Learn about how the desert started forming in the 1980s and has continued to grow due to trade winds that bring sand from the Sahara and Mauritania. Feel the wind in your hair and the adrenaline pump through your body on a thrilling ride across the sand dunes on your quad bike. Continue the tour to Bofareira, a small and sleepy village on the north side of the island, before enjoying a break at Cape Santa Maria to see the shipwreck. Next, drive to Sal Rei city, for a short break followed by a ride along the old cobblestone road to Fatima Church. Visit the east part of the island on the beach with a natural lemon shark rookery, which is a light-brown colored shark, or sand-colored when in its natural environment. Choose to stay on the beach and watch the sharks with binoculars or get in the water and watch them from up close.  The lemon shark is medium to large shark and is not a threat to people, but can be a danger to other ocean animals. Its scientific name is Negaprion Brevirostris. The average length of a lemon shark is about 2.5 to 3 meters. Some of the largest lemon sharks measured about 3.4 meters. These sharks grow about 0.50 centimeters per year. After spending 60 minutes with sharks swimming around you and learning about the sharks you will be taken back to your lodge or hotel where you were picked up.
