Full description

In this GetYourGuide Exclusive, your guide will give you an in-depth tour of Chichen Itza. Listen as they provide background information to help you better understand the history of this place. End the tour with lunch at a local restaurant.

Beat the crowds and the heat by arriving early in the morning at the Chichen Itza Archeological Site. Be the first to enter this Wonder of the World and take amazing pictures with the place almost completely to yourself.

Learn how this large city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around 600 AD to 1200 AD and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spaniards. The site was abandoned and its ruins were eventually hidden by the jungle.

In between the tour, enjoy a typical Mexican buffet lunch at a local family-run restaurant. Swimming at the Saamal Cenote (entry included) and a visit to Valladolid are also on the itinerary.

I would highly suggest the early morning tour, worth getting up for. Our favorite part was the cinoté, make sure you bring a swimming suit. I learned a lot and it was a good education of the Myan culture. Do avoid the Tequila Tour. Just and excuse to sell you.

Overall acceptable. Food was good. Tour could’ve lasted a bit longer inside the park. 2.5 hours is not enough time to see everything, though the tour guide for our group was very knowledgeable. The bathrooms are not very good. No toilet seats to sit down on. Bring your own toilet paper if possible. Some seats on the tour bus do not recline back, which makes it hard to relax for the 2.5 hour journey to the site. Mayan calendars are too expensive. You get what you pay for though.

Kevin, the guide, super! Nice and prepared! Speaks both English and Spanish well. Only flaw that at the last they told us that we could not go to Valladolid because of the carnival! Given the possibility of being able to cancel the reservation within 24 hours, whoever should have at least warned for correctness ..
