Canberra: Capital Brewery Full-Day Tour

3. Canberra: Capital Brewery Full-Day Tour

This Canbeera Explorer tour takes you to three great craft breweries across the Capital and an awesome craft beer pub. After meeting your guide outside BentSpoke brewpub, it’s off to your first stop, Zierholz Premium Brewery in the industrial suburb of Fyshwick.  Here you will learn all about beer and what goes into making it, with a beer in your hand of course, from the owner and brewer Christoph. With a head full of beer knowledge you get behind the scenes and go deep inside the brewery to see where it all happens.  Out the other side of the brewery and back in the tasting bar, it's time to taste more of their German-inspired beers before you head off to lunch.   Lunch is at The Durham Castle Arms at Kingston.  A stalwart of the Canberra pub scene, “the Duzza” has 10 taps of constantly rotating craft beer and hosts regular tap takeovers and beer “fight clubs”. Grab a burger, schnitzel or choose from a range of other tasty lunch options while enjoying a cold beer during our stay. You will zip out to Capital Brewing for some award-winning beers. With time to squeeze in one more brewery, it’s back to BentSpoke in Braddon.  Opened in 2014 by award-winning brewer Richard Watkins and partner Tracy, marvel at the innovative use of space (not to mention the shiny stainless steel and bicycle-inspired décor) as we sample beers from the seasonally changing 18 taps. With the brewery as a backdrop to the bar, you can even “tour” from the comfort of your table. Finish at approximately 5:30 PM at BentSpoke Brewing Co in Braddon, which is minutes from many of the area’s fine restaurants for a dinner stop to round out One Great Day. Please note, while this is our usual itinerary, the order may change slightly due to brewery operations. Start times are fixed, however, drop-off times can change slightly depending on traffic and other factors. Your guides/drivers do everything they can to have you back as close to the drop off time as promised.

What people are saying about Canberra

We had a good time with Ingrid. She was lovely. Murrumbatemon winery was lovely and Rustic. I love that they donate to the RSPCA. The guy showing us the different wines was great ! Eden Road Vineyard was awesome. Lunch was delicious and the cupcake shop was nice too. Unfortunately we missed the Chocolate Factory as the road was washed out from all the rain. I assume because it was raining our tour was cut 2 hrs short but I still had a great day.

An enjoyable day with a small group (6 guests plus guide). A 'behind the scenes' look at a local winery was advertised as an inclusion but did not take place. While the wineries visited were good (particularly Shaw and Four Winds) I would have preferred to visit some smaller, lesser known wineries rather than those whose wines are readily available in bottle shops.

This has been one of the best wine tours I’ve ever been on. Ben, our tour guide was so lovely and extremely knowledgeable. Tasted 6-8 wines at both of the wineries we visited. Pizza for lunch, and cupcakes at a local sweet shop was the perfect pit stop. Finish the day at a fantastic distiller. Couldn’t ask for better.

Leahmaree and I enjoyed the tour, Shane did a great job explaining the brewing processes in each establishment. The small tour, six people, was excellent. Any bigger it would split into groups. I think the actual structure of the tour is good.

A pleasant way to spend time in Canberra.

I enjoyed this day, although didn’t expect stairs. Enquire first. One brewer has only one beer that can be purchased in cans, so probably not worth the trip. Capital Brewery has everything and is well worth a visit.
