Calanques Cassis Hike: Port-Miou, Port-Pin & En-Vau

1. Calanques Cassis Hike: Port-Miou, Port-Pin & En-Vau

Embark on a 6 km hike departing from Cassis. Cross the creeks of Port-Miou, Port-Pin, and one of the most famous, En-Vau. Discover sensational landscapes as you trek along the crystalline waters that meander like fjords. Start by exploring the 1400m long Calanque of Port-Miou that houses a marina and conceals a rich heritage. Learn about a former site of exploitation of a limestone quarry and an underground river. Along the coast, continue until you reach the cove of Port-Pin, marking the entrance to Marseille. Discover a winding cove home to a pretty pebble cove with turquoise waters which you can, if you wish, taste the freshness of its waters during a break. Start to gain a little altitude, which will gradually take you up to 90m above sea level, to the En-Vau belvedere, revealing its beach in reverse, low and buried between the high cliffs.

Cassis wine tour: sea, cliffs and vineyards

2. Cassis wine tour: sea, cliffs and vineyards

Discover the coastal village of Cassis and the dramatic landscapes of the Calanques National Park on a guided day trip from Marseille. Admire the fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea, hike along one of the Calanques trails, visit Cassis, and enjoy a wine tasting at an organic winery. Meet in central Marseille and learn more about the history of the city from your guide as you pass some of its most notable landmarks and neighborhoods. Enjoy the panoramic views of the city as you listen to onboard commentary from your guide. Depending on the option you select, you will then embark on a 3-hour hike to the Calanque d'En Vau, a short hike to Port Pin, or a boat trip to discover the different creeks of the National Park. You can do some snorkeling or kayaking along the coastline also or visit the nearby town of La Ciotat. Finally, visit an organic winery near Cassis for a wine-tasting session. Then set off on the return journey to Marseille, passing by Cap Canaille, the highest sea cliff in Europe for a last and most impressive photo opportunity.

This was a beautiful hike. We were part of a group of 12 (excluding the guide), which I think is the maximum for this activity. The guide was very friendly and shared some information in both French and English. We mostly cared about having someone who could show us exactly where to go. You could probably replicate the experience for free but would need to do some research first and risk taking a worse trail or getting lost, which we wanted to avoid. In terms of difficulty, it should be OK for anyone who doesn’t have mobility issues but be prepared for a moderate to intense workout. Also, I imagine it would be a thousand times harder on a very hot day — the max temp was 81F when we went, which helped a lot. We also took lots of breaks. There was a stop early on at a rocky beach where you could swim, just be careful with the jellyfish if you go in the water. I would also say bring at least 2L of water per person. Overall very happy we did this!

The experience of having seen the creeks of Cassis is extraordinary. Our guide was excellent, attentive and very professional.

Great experience, beautiful landscapes, we were even able to swim! A great way to discover the creeks :)

Exceptional!!! Great hike. Breathtaking landscapes. Our guide was very friendly. I recommend.

Getting to see the views, the callanques and the emerald, clear water was fascinating.
