Best things to do in Cairo

You can't swing a hookah in Cairo without striking archeological treasure! "The City of a Thousand Minarets" boasts not only stunning Ottoman mosques, but ancient wonders and a clash of modern and traditional cultures. Here's what to see.

Pyramid of Djoser

Book a day trip to this stepped tomb built by the earliest known architect, Imhotep. The Pyramid of Djoser has survived over 4 millenia, though all that remains of the Pharoah Djoser is his left foot!

Egyptian Museum of Antiquities

The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including Tutankhamen's solid gold death mask. Expect strict security measures, but it's truly a must-see!

Al-Azhar Park

Finished in 2005, it's already hard to imagine how the site of the breathtaking Al-Azhar Park was once a mountain of garbage accumulated over five centuries!

Al-Azhar Mosque

For a tour of Cairo's religious life and history, there's no better place to start than at the city's oldest mosque. Al-Azhar Mosque was built in 970AD and it's also home to the world's first university!

Khan Al-Khalili

Khan Al-Khalili,Cairo's most prominent souk (market), is as old as the Egyptian capital itself, and its economic heart still beats with tourists and locals alike!

Mosque of Muhammad Ali

Crowning its citadel is Cairo's most prominent landmark. Not only is the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali one of the best places to visit, it offers greats views of the city too.

Giza Necropolis

Though home to two of Cairo's most famous icons – the Great Pyramids and Sphinx – the Necropolis' best attraction might actually be the fascinating ancient workers' village.

What people are saying about Cairo

Excellent, relaxing, peaceful ride in Felucca on Nile

My partner, from Greece and I, Tony, from England. Had a wonderful experience sailing on the River Nile in a Felucca, traditional Egyptian sail boat. Two hours of relaxing bliss, away from Cairo's heavy trafic and honking horns! Transport to-from our accommodation, the lovely Cairo hotel was included in the 81 Euro for 2 person price. . Our driver and, the captain of the Felucca, looked after us splendidly, assisting us on and off the boat. The ride could have been a little longer and, it would have been nice if hot drinks had been provided, but overall, a great romantic experience. Would recommend for anyone visiting Cairo.

Cairo: 2-Hour Felucca Ride on the Nile Reviewed by Tony, 02/18/2019

It was a great show with English narration.

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Food was great. We had authentic Egyptian food and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tour guide Esma was great. The driver was great.

Margo was professional and knowledgeable and personable.

There’s way more to see in this museum than you can see in four hours, but Margo did a wonderful job of hitting the top items and many many other less obvious but important treasures and putting them into the historical context.

Half Day Tour in Cairo to the Egyptian Museum Reviewed by Carol, 02/08/2019

The best experience that we had in Cairo

Our tourguide knew almost everything about Egyptian history. He solved every question that we had. Take for sure the visit in papyrus museum and parfume place that recommended. You have, also, the option to ride a camel. The guide was an excellent photographer, too. Have in mind that all tickets for museums are extra but worth it.Don't hesitate to take this tour. Both guys were very kind and helpful!!

It's a worth and impressive trip despite of many hours on road.

I'm very satisfied with this amazing trip which fulfilled one of my childhood dreams. The scenery of these 3 pyramids it's very impressive and hard to describe in words. Besides, the company provide a very comfortable minibus with skilled drivers and professional guide. My guide, Ahmed, except of his good knowledges of history and archeology entertained us with many jokes and making the very long trip (21 hours) more enjoyable. He even bought for all of us (11 persons) a present consisting in something sweet and a bottle of water which was very appreciate of us. The whole team starting with the driver fetching me from Makadi Bay to Hurghada, the 2 drivers and the guide were very kind and professional. That's why I fully recommend this day trip with this company.
