Full description

Experience the natural splendors of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, and climb and crawl your way through Hungary’s longest cave system on a half-day caving expedition. No prior experience of caving is needed to get the most out of this adventure.

Famous for its hot springs, Budapest is visited by many people who want to experience the thermal baths. But only a few know that the hot water rushing up from deep underground created something even more extraordinary. In the limestone mountains under Budapest, the heated water formed a huge cave system that is thought to be more than 200 kilometers long. The longest cave of Budapest is the 32 kilometers long Pál-völgyi-Mátyás-hegyi cave system in the Duna-Ipoly National Park. It’s a multi-level labyrinth system where most of the chambers lie under the residential districts of Budapest. The scheduled cave tours are guided by qualified caving guides. During the adventure, you will climb on walls and crawl through narrow passages. Marvel at the natural parts of the cave under the supervision of a professional caving guide (all guides are qualified members of the Hungarian Caving Association).

Enjoy the perfect activity for groups, families, or solo travelers looking to make some new friends. Bond through an interactive adventure, where cooperation can definitely make your way easier.

This was one of the coolest excursions I have ever done! I found the caving adventures in Budapest while randomly googling things to do and chose the more adventurous one instead of the walking one. It was incredible and an adrenaline rush; we were truly climbing through the cave and squeezing ourselves through tight spaces. Our guide (Salid I believe? I don't know how to correctly spell his name) was the best. He was helpful and very friendly and told fun stories along the way. This is definitely not for the claustrophobic or faint of heart, but other than that, it felt safe yet exhilarating and I HIGHLY recommend this adventure while in Budapest.

Friendly ! It is indeed difficult to get there by transport, but planning an hour is good. Big negative point there were 13 of us, so we waited a lot during the outfit fittings, we had also waited in the cave, it was not smooth, and we missed explanations. Too bad 8 people would have been great. However, it remains a good experience that adds spice to this trip to Budapest!

This was INCREDIBLE! Quite possibly the best experience my husband and I have ever had. First up - this is a LEGIT caving experience. In other words, there is no smooth "trail" or cute lanterns lining the way or a train to take you around. You will be smushing your body into teeny tiny spaces with no clue what's on the other end. This is not for the faint of heart or claustrophobic. That said, we had a phenomenal time. It was on our last day in Budapest and we were able to take public transit to the cave. That was a bit difficult to figure out but manageable. We were able to store our backpacks in large lockers during the tour. The caving lasted about 3 hours and we were with another couple for a total of 5 people including the guide. You are given a jumpsuit to protect your clothing - you don't need much though bc it gets warm. This was the perfect rainy day excursion and I cannot recommend it enough! This will be the highlight of your trip (more than the baths ha!).
