Dijon : Guided Tour : The Well of Moses

3. Dijon : Guided Tour : The Well of Moses

Admire the Well of Moses, a hexagonal pillar almost 7 meters tall standing in a basin supplied by ground water. On each side of this pillar are niches framed by small columns with foliage-covered capitals. Each niche shelters a statue of six prophets from the Old Testament: Moses, Isaiah, Daniel, Zachariah, Jeremiah and David. Between them, you can see six angels whose expressions or gestures convey the sorrow of the Passion. This is one of the most impressive sculptures from the end of the Middle Ages due to its powerful design, the realism of the faces and the costumes. Close to the Well of Moses, you can admire the 19th-century chapel built in a neo-Gothic style. Of the original building, only the portal incorporated into the chapel remains. To enhance your visit, a sound montage will be provided in this chapel. This is a great opportunity to discover the Chartreuse of Champmol, which was once a major religious site during the time of the Dukes of Burgundy.

What people are saying about Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Our guide, Emmanuel, was terrific. He knows a tremendous a mount about wine, and when we asked a lot of questions he answered them all in a way that made sense to us. The itinerary was thoughtfully produced. We enjoyed having lunch as a group. And the wine we tasted was excellent. Five stars for this tour!

Emmanuel knows Burgundy very well, and has the patience to explain what you need to know about the complexity of this region. You can be relaxed and enjoy wine and the explanation about Burgundy. without the feeling to rush through the tour. Highly recommended.

Emmanuel was personable and incredibly knowledgeable, due no doubt to his many years of experience in the wine industry. The van was quiet and comfortable, and we happily bought wines at each stop…

Emanuel was all that our group could have hoped for . Knowledgeable about his area and his wines; great company and created some superb visiting and tasting experiences .

Knowledgeable, friendly and very informative guide!
