Full description
Head to the Quadrilatero area, the vibrant heart of Bologna, to start your 3-hour food tour. Step off the beaten paths, discover unexpected sights and hear amazing stories about the origins and traditions of the city. First, make your way to a small trattoria to sample traditional Ragù alla Bolognese (Bolognese sauce). Sample and learn why a five-year-old Parmigiano Reggiano is so special, and sip 12 to 24-year-old balsamic vinegars from Modena. Enjoy a carefully selected charcuterie sampler from Emilia-Romagna and see how homemade, fresh pasta is created by Bologna's very own sfogline (pasta-makers). As you end your savory stroll through the city, enjoy the best artisanal gelato in town. Your entire Italian-gastro experience is infused in the heart of this medieval town at some of the best secret spots where locals eat, off the tourist paths.

Our guide was sweet Isidora. Although we took the tour after spending a few days of exploring Bolonga, she taught us so much. An endless source of knowledge, portrayed in the most charming way. Do not miss it. What can be better than superb food and history and culture? Long live "Bologna the fat" together with "Bologna the learned".

    Best tour of the trip

Having only 10 people on the tour was ideal. We were all able to interact with Raffaella. Raffaella provided excellent local knowledge and history on Bologna. Additionally she cover the processee and regional controls for the local cheese and meat products. Having a pasta lunch with wine was great. We all enjoyed the variety of meats and the explanations of the different types of cured meats and the process for curing meats. Our favourite place was the osteria. It was the type of place we would never have known to go to and definitely appeared to be a local hangout. Finishing with a top quality gelato was the perfect end to the tour.

A great tour with great tastes and locations

Mattia is an excellent English-speaking guide who took us for a great tour of some interesting food and drink locations in Bologna, ranging from a coffee bar to a Balsamic Vinegar tasting with salami, cheese and gelati mixed in. Along the route Mattia showed us interesting places significant to the history of Bologna. We had a simple but tasty lunch with wine included. The group was a good size with 10 people and worked well for the places visited. We were made very welcome at all the shops and workplaces we visited. My wife is a non-meat eater and was very well catered for throughout the tour which included some very meaty locations. The tour was run at a comfortable pace which, as I walk with a stick and am a little unsteady and slow, was very helpful.
