From its home base in Cairns, Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises operates half and full day reef cruises to famous Green Island, an idyllic coral cay on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises is owned and managed by experienced cruise operators, the Wallace family. Since 1979 when they launched the renowned Quicksilver Cruises from Port Douglas, the Wallace’s have been perfecting the art of day touring on the Great Barrier Reef. The Wallace’s operated Quicksilver Connections at Port Douglas for 10 years before selling and later purchasing Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises in 1990. In 2008, The Wallace family’s winning formula of friendly and helpful service earned Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises an induction into the Tropical North Queensland Tourism Awards Hall of Fame after winning the Best Major Tour and Transport Operator in 2004, 2006 and 2007. “Reef Rocket” is a state of the art 24 metre vessel with a capacity for 120 passengers and operates two half day and one full day cruises from Cairns. “Big Cat” is a modern 35 metre vessel with a capacity for 320 passengers and operates the full day cruise daily from Cairns. Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises specialises in discovering the Great Barrier Reef. Visitors are encouraged to view the wonderful underwater world of marine life and corals by participating in snorkelling, glass bottom boat or semi-submarine coral viewing tours. The company also offers introductory and helmet diving. In November 2004 the company launched a new day touring cruise operation of Trinity Inlet called Cairns Habitat Cruises aboard the M.V Crocodile Explorer, this was rebranded as Cairns Harbour Cruises in August 2012. The Crocodile Explorer is an air-conditioned 15 metre catamaran providing the ultimate in cruising comfort for passengers. A Convenient 2 hour harbour cruise departing right from the centre of Cairns, daily at 11.00am and 1.30pm, explore Trinity Inlet, a remote picturesque mangrove lined wilderness with informative commentary from your friendly crew. Spot crocodiles and birds in their natural habitat, and learn about the fascinating Cairns harbour and its history. In December 2006, Cairns Harbour Cruises launched The Sunset Cruise, a 90 minute cruise along the Trinity Inlet where passengers are treated to the spectacular sight of the city at dusk. The cruise departs every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday (January – June) and every evening from July to December, 5.30pm to 7.00pm.
