Full description
Since the early 1920s, the area round Nollendorfplatz has been one of the most famous gay neighborhoods in the world. Nowhere else in Berlin was there a greater density of simple pubs and dance halls, sophisticated bars and clubs exclusive to the gay community. Come along to tour the remaining traces of this historic world in the north of Schöneberg and learn about the people that thronged this multifaceted gay and lesbian district between the end of World War I and the accession of the Nazi Party. The quarter began to bloom again as West Berlin's only gay district from the end of the 1960s, up to the present day. Schöneberg is still known for its particularly tolerant attitude and its variety, characteristics which, 100 years ago, contributed to the area's fame, notoriety, and attractiveness for the local and international community. Join in with this fascinating tour on a trip through time, and discover the Queer history of Berlin.

This tour was part of my Dutch queer association's trip to Berlin. Our tour guide Tobias was amazing! He was incredibly knowledgable and had a definite knack for telling stories. I had a bit of trouble finding an available time slot because we were with a group of 24 but both GetYourGuide and Tobias himself were very helpful and accomodating and made sure everything worked out okay.

I highly recommend the tour with Tobias! He was very informative and had many interesting stories about the history of the gay village. I felt like we saw a lot and that I have a much better sense of the history and how that has impacted society and the community today. Enjoyed the architecture and parks as well. Thanks!

I really enjoyed my walking tour with Tobias. It was clear that he's an expert in this field as well as being an experienced tour guide. He was easy to find by the station This tour went more in-depth than I expected, and explored areas I would have never stopped to look. Tobias was professional, approachable and friendly, and I'd recommend this tour if you're interested in the history of queer Berlin.
