Full description
Travel north of Berlin by train and take a poignant guided tour of Sachsenhausen Memorial. See the remaining structures, learn of the site’s dark history, and take in emotive memorials dedicated to the camp’s victims. Witness what remains of the facilities that housed the guards, staff, and the prisoners. Enter at guard tower “A” and stand on the registration compound, before seeing the Jewish barracks, boot testing track, and gallows. Continue to the camp’s hospital and pathology laboratory before arriving at the grizzly Station Z building, which contained a crematorium and killing facilities Learn how the camp came to be during Nazi Germany, what conditions were like inside the camp during World War II, and how at last prisoners were liberated at the end of the war. While many of the camp’s stories are grim and heartbreaking, you will also hear inspiring tales of resistance and survival as you walk past commemorative monuments and plaques paying tribute to the camp’s victims and survivors.

I'm really glad that I decided to do a guided tour of the camp instead of visiting on my own; the tour was incredibly informative and made the visit much more impactful. The guide, George, struck the perfect tone and was more than able to answer every question with his wealth of knowledge on the camp's history. If you are interested in visiting Sachsenhausen and are deciding whether to do a tour, I would definitely recommend this one.

George was excellent. He knew the history of Sachsenhausen thoroughly and brought in many details when answering questions. He was passionate about the importance of remembering and keeping memorials in place and often would remind the group of the horrors mankind continues to inflict on each other since WW II through today. The tour is a somber reminder of past events and George kept a perfect pitch of describing and remembering. Thank you.

Chris is an exceptional guide! He was so informative about the tour and answered all our questions, not just about the camp but the history of Berlin and Germany. This tour is exceptionally good value and worth using a day of your holiday to learn about the history of these atrocities. Good footwear required.
