To travel freely in the most common zones of Berlin, I have already booked the Berlin WelcomeCard at home for zones A and B. In addition, you will receive a discount on many 'entrances'. If it is only about free travel, you can also buy a public transport day ticket cheaply (7 euros per day).

My 72-hour ticket was valid for 3 days from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m., even though I only arrived in the afternoon on the first day, meaning that I had to buy single tickets on the third day. The 72 hours should be counted from the 1st use / validation and not from 8 a.m.

A great idea, but it is really only worth it if you drive a lot of underground and S-Bahn and bus. We had our hotel in a very central location, so that we were rather less on the train, but you really save a lot of money on the ticket prices over a long weekend! Excellent!
