Full description

Discover the historic sights and local hotspots of Bergen on a guided walking tour through the city. Learn about the city's history and modern life with your expert local guide.

Meet at the Rosenkrantz Tower, a building inside the Bergenhus Fortress. Begin by learning about Bergen's royal and political past and explore the mighty fortress of the city.

Take a short walk to Bryggen, Bergen's UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander the narrow alleys and explore over 500 years of history, and maybe you'll even get to sample what the Hanseatic merchant of the past traded here. After learning about the history of the city, it's time to go off the beaten path. Wander through the narrow alleys in the historic residential neighborhood, where you'll learn about Bergen's wooden architecture, life as an average person in the 18th and 19th centuries, and also what it's like to live here today. The last part of the tour will take you past some of Bergen's most popular eateries, where you can learn more about the vibrant city life and what Norwegians love to eat. Pass the Floibanen funicular station, so by the time you end at the tourist office, you'll be full of ideas for what to do in Bergen for the rest of your stay.

The tour begins outside the Rosenkrantz Tower (Rosenkrantztårnet, address is Bergenhus 3). This is a large stone tower inside the Bergenhus Fortress complex. To get to the tower, enter the fortress on a cobblestone path with a stone archway. On the other side of the archway, in a large courtyard, you'll see the tower to your left and a sign with the tower's name and picture on it. The guide will be standing there 10 minutes before the tour begins with a sign saying "Bergen Past & Present". Please be there at least 10 minutes before the tour begins. Dane is an incredible guide! He is immensely knowledgable and very personable. This tour is a fab way to introduce you to Bergen/Norway and its history. You are taken down the less trodden paths of the city, whilst learning about the charms of the buildings and its people. Ask any question and you get a detailed and well thought answer. Dane also had plenty of tips on what to visit after the tour, where to eat and drink, and where to find good live music. This company is very professional and goes above and beyond. Highly recommend!

This tour was wonderful due to our excellent guide, Dane. He made the history so interesting that we were all captivated. He took us to places that only a local would know about, including a lookout over the city. He was so happy to answer questions about Bergen, but also recommended places to eat based on our tastes. After the tour, a few of us had a coffee in a local bar/Cafe with him. I would highly recommend this tour!
