Caldonia: Concert and Film Posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection

Be inspired by the newest exhibit, "Caldonia: Concert and Film Posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection".

This exhibit presents a cultural and historical view of African American performers slowly disappearing from public memory. It features posters for performances by musicians such as Otis Redding, Ruth Brown, Thelonius Monk, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin—including the 1945 poster for “Caldonia,” released on Decca Records.

The exhibit also includes announcements for films such as Cabin in the Sky (1943) featuring Ethel Waters and Lena Horne, and St. Louis Blues starring Bessie Smith. These performances and films launched the careers of now-household names who changed the shape of American music.

Many of the posters exhibited are themselves rare, but their true value comes from their content and historical context.
