Full description
After pick-up by your guide at your hotel, make the 1.5-hour drive to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Have a rest and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. You'll then have two options for travelling up and down the wall: round-trip cable car or chairlift, or by toboggan. Take 7 minutes to reach the top of the wall (instead of the 45 minutes it takes to go by foot up the steps!). The cable car ascends to and descends from the 14th watchtower, from where you can walk east to the 23rd watchtower, the most beautiful part of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. The cable car will take you to the 6th watch tower - recommended for those in great physical condition, as the hike to the 23rd watchtower from the 6th is more difficult. Spend the day exploring this truly extraordinary Wall that has captured the imagination of the world for centuries. After returning to the foot of the Great Wall, you'll be transferred back to your hotel for an approximately 6:00 PM arrival.

Olivia and her driver picked us up at our hotel and on the drive to The Great Wall Olivia gave us a comprehensive history of The Great Wall - how/why it was built, etc. We stopped for lunch and sampled some delicious local cuisine (Olivia recommended her favourite dishes). Then on to The Great Wall. We watched an immersive 4D production detailing more of the history of The Great Wall. We then took the chair lift to Tower 4, taking in the beautiful vista of the Wall and all who live in its shadow. We walked to Tower 2 and touched the stones previously touched by others centuries ago. Then after our walk we raced down to our starting point on our own toboggans. We had the best fun, made even more enjoyable and memorable by our experienced, knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly tour guide, Olivia. If you want to experience the majesty of The Great Wall, be well looked after, and have loads of fun, I recommend engaging Olivia as your tour guide!!

The tourguide called the night before to tell us when the bus would pick us up, that was great and we felt very safe. We ate lunch at a cool resturant with great food. The tourguide knew a lot of interestning facts about the great wall, and China in general. He was walking a little fast, so it was a little hard to keep up. All in all, a good experience.

nice day out

Our guide was Cactus and she was very knowledgeable about the Wall and other subjects. We had lunch first and then went for about 1 1/2 on the Wall at Mutianyu. We had enough time for a little walk and to take photos. We took the chair lift up and the toboggan down. Good fun in a group of 5.
