From Munich: Herrenchiemsee Palace and Boat Trip Day-Tour

3. From Munich: Herrenchiemsee Palace and Boat Trip Day-Tour

Spend a lovely day out on a boat exploring the beautiful Chiemsee and its two picturesque islands, the Herreninsel and the Fraueninsel. Known as “the Bavarian Ocean,” Chiemsee is the largest fresh-water lake near Munich. Herreninsel boasts wonderful Herrenchiemsee, a palace built by King Ludwig II in 1878 in the image of Versailles in France. In some respects, however, Herrenchiemsee actually surpasses Versailes – its Hall of Mirrors is a famous example. With its elegant gardens and walkways and the beautiful interiors of gold, glass, and porcelain, the palace is a visually stunning monument to opulence. King Ludwig's difficult personality is reflected in his famous elevated dining table, which was raised and lowered through the floor so the reclusive King did not have to see his servants. This tour gives you the full story of Chiemsee and its islands. You even get the option of touring the interior of the palace. This full day tour is one of the most unique and special touring experiences in Germany.

Munich: Royal Water Music on the Starnberg Lake

5. Munich: Royal Water Music on the Starnberg Lake

The high point of the evening is the Royal Water Music in the salon on the main deck of MS Starnberg, a luxurious concert hall with exceptional acoustics. The Residence Soloists and members of the Munich Philharmonic will play masterpieces by Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart and others. Traditionally, on such royal occasions, a hunt would take place: the quarry would be driven out of the woods into the lake for the courtly company to shoot at. Such entertainment cannot, unfortunately, be provided; but you are sure to enjoy the exciting tales of the Bavarian Kingdom, told by cultural historians on board. After this a 3 course dinner including drinks and a champagne reception awaits you. The first course includes canapés, shrimps in potato jackets, a selection of bruschette, Parma ham and antipasti satays, and smoked salmon tartlets. The main course is of pork medallions and turkey steak in Calvados sauce with potato gratin and seasonal vegetables. For pudding you will be served dark and white chocolate mousses with forest berries. The festive music, the thrilling courtly tales, and the delicious 3 course dinner afterwards make this voyage on the Starnberg Lake a glorious and unforgettable event. The team of Bavaria Klassik welcome you onboard Bavaria's biggest luxury ship, the MS STARNBERG, on the Starnberg Lake. Let them treat you like royalty on an incredible cruise and take a trip through time to the days of bavarian royalty with a cultural historian. The ship is well-suited to all weather; in good weather, the concert portion of the evening even takes place on the sun deck. Enjoy a greeting with prosecco before a delicious 3-course meal with drinks, and the night really goes out with a bang as a Baroque firework show awaits you in Starnberg at the end of the tour.

Salzburg: Canyoning and Rafting Experience with Lunch

6. Salzburg: Canyoning and Rafting Experience with Lunch

Pack 2 exciting activities into a single day of fun. Explore the stunning Almbach canyon, jumping or abseiling down sheer rock faces and swimming in the fresh waters below. Break for lunch before setting out on the next leg of your adventure, a rafting experience on the Salzach River. Meet your guide at Basecamp Golling to collect your gear and make your way to the starting point, where a day of outdoor fun awaits. First up, a canyoning experience in the Almbach gorge.  Before you set out to explore the canyon, your guide will take you through a full safety briefing. Spend the morning discovering one of the most beautiful and varied gorges in the Salzburg area and learn canyoning techniques from your licensed guide as you traverse breathtaking landscapes. Jump from heights of between 1.5 and 8 meters, zoom down natural slides and swim in the cool canyon waters. And if you're feeling a little uncertain about jumping, you can choose to abseil down the rock face assisted by your experienced guide. Having worked up an appetite, you'll head back to the Torrenerhof Hotel for some traditional Austrian food. Savor a delicious schnitzel or enjoy Kasnockerln (cheese dumplings) for the vegetarian option. After lunch, head to the Salzach River to begin your rafting adventure. Hop into your raft and start drifting down the river, taking this time to familiarize yourself with the onboard commands and the nature of the water. Stay focused as you approach the 'Labyrinth', a blocked rapids section that will demand all your attention. Take a short break from the action as you reach the impressive waterfall of the Gasteiner Ache, where things slow down a bit.  Then, just before your rafting tour comes to an end, make the most of some splashier parts of the river – staying dry will not be an option. End your day with a convenient transfer back to Camp Golling, where you can take advantage of the shower facilities to clean up before heading back to your accommodation.

What people are saying about Bavaria

The "sea voyage" was super relaxing and very nice. The tables were beautifully set with white tablecloths and serviettes, very elegant. The program was varied with baroque music and good food. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. I was pleasantly surprised that the drinks (I only drank water) were free and you were always asked if you wanted to have more. All in all: great value for money with a wonderful final fireworks display. I would highly recommend this ride. Thanks again to the organizers and the crew. And thanks to the passengers who gave the event a special touch with a chic style of clothing.

great trip thanks also to the excellent guide Michelle who coordinated us well, .. she worked hard not to let us have any problems and explained to us in detail the whole story, life, of Ludovico 2 .. excellent person and great guide ... beautiful impression of professionalism tnx a lot by Luigi Castriota e Giovanna sassi (the Italians).

The excursion is well worth it. The train, the islands, the boat ride and the palace............all spectacular. Oh and the person we went with, Stephanie..........was great and spoke Spanish and French as well. It is definitely worth it.

Loved this tour of the palace. Our guide Stephanie was fantastic! She arranged all the tickets and transportation and made sure we were where we needed to be at the right times. Much better than trying to figure everything out on our own.

Was a great tour. It was really fun :D our guide and our driver were great!
