It is impossible to miss one of the most emblematic symbols of the city of Bari, the Norman-Swabian Castle, an imposing fortress dating back to the 13th century, now turned into a museum. With its extensive moat it overlooks the gates of Bari Vecchia, flanking the perimeter of the city, which was defended by it since the Roman times. To the defensive function, the Normans added the monitoring of the territory. Afterwards, as the seat of the court of Isabella of Aragon, the Castle acquired a Renaissance style and was completed with the defensive wall, the corner bastions, the drawbridge and the quadrangular courtyard. The complete tour of the Castle (inside and outside) comes with the access to the Gipsoteca, an interesting collection of Romanesque sculptures and plaster casts, which reflect the details of the most important monuments of Puglia, from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century.

Our guide, Nicholas, gave a fantastic tour of Bari. It was informative and personable. We passed through a few larger tour groups during our walk, and I felt like we were having a better experience than they were. He was completely fluent in English, which was perfect for two dumb American college students who had little to no grasp on the local language. Some advice for other travelers, we were three young men in our twenties, walking fast and far, and we got the full tour of Old Town, The Beach Front, and a considerable hike (at least 45 minutes, probably an hour) from our AirBnB done within 3.5 hours. Take that information how you will, but I can't imagine needing more than 4 hours for an extensive tour of Bari. I can't stress enough that this tour was of high quality, given by a professional in his trade, and on top of that we booked it last minute (within 36 hours, and I can't imagine that Nicholas had more than 24 to prepare). Highly impressed. Full recommended.

We loved our Street Food walking tour in Old Bari with Manuela! She was a wealth of information and her English was easy to understand. It was fun walking the narrow streets, seeing several churches, learning the history of the area and tasting original Barese foods: Focaccia salami cheeses fried polenta breads a little vino and gelato! Great 3 hour tour!!

interesting tour, Carmela pointed out a lot that we would've just walked past, and gave history and significance of sights and buildings.. and the food was great! small group, only 5, and she narrated in both English and Spanish.

If you're into history, it's a good experience, the guide was a historian, so you got full value for money.

Nicholas was great! He helped us find parking and shared wonderful information about Bari
