Full description
Wat Bang Phra is a Buddhist monastery, approximately 50 kilometers west of Bangkok. The temple is known for its daily tattoos, or Sak Yant, given by the local monks. This tradition of tattooing dates back hundreds of years. The Gao Yord Yant or 9 Spires Yant is a sacred tattoo, believed to protect and bring good luck to the bearer. This has a similar meaning to another Sak Yant design, the Hah Taew Yant. The Gao Yord Yant is usually tattooed on the nape of the neck. The 9 Spires Yant is a geometric design and represents the 9 Sacred Peaks of Mount Meru. It contains 9 symbolic images of Buddha, demonstrating how important the number 9 is in Buddhism. This experience is truly unique in Thailand as the monks are only giving a holy tattoo and blessings to very few number of people per day. During this trip, there will be an English speaking guide who will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel in downtown Bangkok with an air-conditioned vehicle. The guide will explain to you the details of ceremony along the way and make sure that everything goes smoothly.

Like others have mentioned, "King" Kong was a wonderful host. Very friendly, with great conversation and he was a very safe driver. It was a beautiful drive outside of the city, seeing a lot of farmland and cool neighborhoods. Everyone at the temple was very friendly and we really enjoyed meeting the people, cats and dogs that live there. The tattoos came out great and was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! We can't wait to go back next time we are in Thailand!

Good past experience. The guide picks you up by car at the address indicated following the defined perimeter, takes you by air-conditioned car to the temple where the ajarn tattoos you with bamboo (the pain is largely bearable, the session lasts about 30min). On the other hand, no visit to the temple after the tattoo session, just the time to thank the ajarn and we go straight back to Bangkok where the guide will drop you off at your hotel. Our group did not have the after tattoo ceremony due to lack of time either. The King Kong guide is nice.

The visit to Wat Bang Phra today was one of the highlights of this trip and represents, to me, a return to the kind of travel and adventure I enjoyed before the pandemic. I completed a tattoo “trilogy” as epic as Star Wars. Well… maybe not, but we know how that turned out! Again, the amazing variety and good character of the people met along the way here in Thailand has made these moments an even richer reward. My new friend Matthias, and my original guide from years ago, “King” Kong, took the trip with me to this famous temple to receive our blessed designs of power and protection, an ancient Thai tradition. We were glad.
