Full description
Be collected at your accommodation and hop in a comfortable air-conditioned car. Admire the scenic road of the volcano and learn about the fascinating Balinese culture from your guide along the way. You will discover two of the most mysterious and ancient villages on the island and meet a Bali priest or healer to learn about Bali Sekala and Niskala. Your first stop will be at Truyan Village. The locals in this village live a very traditional life that is vastly different from the rest of Bali. The Trunyanese do not cremate their dead. After a cleansing ritual, the dead body is placed in a bamboo cage, locally known as ancak saji, which is placed under the Taru Menyan tree. Taru Menyan means nice smelling tree and it emanates a scent that neutralizes the smell of rotting bodies. It is from this tree that the name Trunyan is derived. It is only the bodies of married people that are placed in bamboo cages.  Continue your tour and visit another ancient village called Bayung Gede, which is believed to be the parent of all of the ancient villages in Bali. Many people come here to see the hanging newborn placentas that are unique to Bayung Gede. In Trunyan, bodies of the dead are laid on the ground unburied but here it is the placenta that is unburied. This is the only village in Indonesia that does this. Your journey will not be completed without a visit to Kehen Temple, which is a significant Hindu Temple in Bali. It is located on the slope of Bukit Bangli, which is believed to be the mother temple of Bangli. Admire the beauty of its stunning steps to heaven and its unique wooden bell hanging on its very old and secret banyan tree.

This day was the most incredible of our stay in Bali. Our guide Sintya was simply wonderful and incomparable! She took us to discover temples and places rich in history and fascinating legends. She made us discover an authentic Bali far from the tourists. She is very cultured and she always had very interesting explanations to give us about each place, their beliefs and their spirituality. We recommend this tour 10000% and above all ask for Sintya because she will make all the difference! Thank you again for this unique moment.

What an absolutely incredible tour! Yes, the price is expensive however justified when you understand the breakdown of the costs. My guide, Dharma, was simply wonderful. He was full of knowledge, courteous, took some amazing photos and was just great. This tour visits some less popular sights so I was often the only person there. And the Trunyan Village? No words. A fascinating glimpse into the death rituals of this small group of people. Highly recommend

A true sample of an excellent tour guide!! We were blessed with the best guide we could've hoped for - Made Dwipa! Dwipa has such a warm personality and is extremely knowledgeable, I'd say he is much more than a tour guide - he is a cultural advisor and has made our trip very memorable and rich. We have a deeper understanding of Balinese culture thanks to him! Discovering ancient rituals and sacred locations was a huge part of this trip and has left us all wanting to return and experience more of Bali. We highly recommend this tour and, more so, our wonderful guide!
