This was a great family activity. We got to get up close to the islet with spectacular closeup views of the islet itself as well as a stunning view of the town of Vila Franca do Campo from the ocean. Instruction prior to departing the marina was minimal, so we would recommend this activity for people with some prior kayaking/swimming experience. It was wonderful swimming in the islet, we had great weather and the ocean was calm. I recommend asking your tour guide(s) about the history of the islet and Vila Franca do Campo for a heightened experience. Overall fantastic experience!

Booked the kayak tour to Ilheu De Vila Franca Do Campo with pick up from Ponta Delgada and it was amazing! Much better than taking a boat there. You get a decent work out and it’s a much more beautiful way to experience the Islet. We were picked up from the hotel by 2 guides who were very friendly and warm. It was about a 25 minute drive to the marina. I’ve done a lot of kayaking and these tandem kayaks were so comfortable I was surprised. The guides were very patient and also clear with their instructions. It’s an easy-moderate paddle to the isle about 25-30 minutes. The waters are turquoise and it was pretty calm for the sea. We had the option to paddle around the protected reserve and it’s definitely an option you want to take! It’s breathtaking to see the arches and then to kayak in and explore the caves. We then parked our kayaks inside the protected reserve and had a chance to snorkel. The whole experience was about 3 hours not including transfer. It’s totally worth the money!

Would recommend this instead of taking the boat if you like a little more fun and adventure going out to the caldera. It’s not a difficult kayaking experience but a much better way to enjoy the island. There are a lot of fish in the lagoon in the middle so snorkeling was glam added bonus. The 2 instructors were excellent and guided us around the caldera first and even let us go into a small cave Inlet on the outer section before we spent an hour in the middle lagoon area. Was definitely worth it.
