Amalfi: City Highlights Walking Tour

1. Amalfi: City Highlights Walking Tour

Follow your guide through Amalfi's historic center on a walking tour to explore its main monuments such as Chiostro del Paradiso, Amalfi Cathedral, and Santa Maria Maddalena. In addition to the wonderful views and narrow streets, enjoy the historical heritage of the town with your guide's commentary. Start your tour right in the middle of Piazza Duomo. Visit the 9th-century medieval Roman Catholic cathedral of Duomo di Amalfi. Inside, see Chiostro del Paradiso, a Moorish-style cloister featuring 120 columns, 13th-century frescoes, and religious artifacts around a central garden. Right in the middle of the busy square dotted with sidewalk cafes and shops, spot the Baroque-style marble fountain of Sant'Andrea. Walk along Via dei Mercanti, and admire the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrow, Piazza Umberto I town square, and Via dei Dogi. Finally, walk towards the edge of Atrani with the Amalfi Coast road curving around its base to spot the Baroque façade of the Santa Maria Maddalena church. If you'd like to go inside and see the altar with its richly colored marbles and 16th-century paintings, you can pay for the entrance on site.

2. Amalfi & Atrani: 2-Hour Private Walking Tour

Let yourself be enchanted by a 2-hour guided tour starting from the historic center of Amalfi to Atrani experiencing the colors, the typical tastes and the millenary history of the Amalfi Coast. Amalfi was the capital of an ancient maritime republic. Its historic center is justly considered an outdoor museum and preserves, almost intact, the architectural and urban drug of its past. Towers, walls, vaulted houses, ancient churches, chapels and convents, testify, with its rich medieval mercantile houses of the aristocracy, the historical past of Amalfi.  Come to the 'so-called' piazzetta right in the center of Atrani from where you can admire a beautiful view. Start in the Flavio Gioia Square, with the statue in marble of the inventor of the compass. View the Arsenale and visit the big and graceful historic center with an overwhelmingly beautiful St. Andrew's Cathedral (or Duomo) in the Arab-Sicilian style dedicated to Saint Andrew, the apostle and a patron saint of Amalfi whose relics are kept here. Visit the Fountain of Sant'Andrea with marble sculptures of Saint Andrea and marine gods carved in the 18th century. View the narrow medieval alleys densely sorrounded by souvenir shops and limoncello. Walk up to the characteristic Atrani. Stop for a panoramic view at the cemetery of the ancient monastery of San Lorenzo. Arrive to Piazza Atrani and visit Chiesa di San Salvatore de’ Birecto. End your visit with a 5 minute walk to return on foot downtown to Amalfi.

What people are saying about Atrani

Brilliant day tour of the amalfi coast. Our driver/guide - Fabio was absolutely brilliant and made the whole journey exciting and memorable. He accommodated all our requests and took us us to some brilliant, jaw dropping view points. Fabio planned the whole journey pretty well and the best thing was the restaurant he chose for our lunch at Scala. Beautiful hilltop restaurant with an amazing view. We enjoyed our tour and many thx to Fabio as he made our tour comfortable and special!!

It was one of the best tour! Maurizzio is an excellent guide & driver. He knows a lot of history and shared with us so many informations. Good english speaker and his recommendations for lunch were amazing. Also the car was a brand new one. The owner of the company, Vittorio was very responsive and I want to congratulate him and Maurizzio for the excellent customer experience we had.
