Full description
Your private tour will start from your hotel in Athens and head to the central mainland of Greece. The first stop is the battlefield of Thermopylae and the "Hot Gates" named after the hot springs there. Here is where King Leonidas and 300 brave Spartans gave their lives for the freedom of Greece.  Pass by Trikala, Karditsa, Kalambaka and Kastraki, before finally reaching the Meteora monasteries. They come second in religious importance and size after Mount Athos in orthodox Christianity. Meteora means "middle of the sky", and the monasteries are built on high pillars at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly, near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains. There are still monks and nuns inhabiting them today. You will visit up to 3 monasteries, depending on what time allows before having a memorable Greek lunch. You'll eat at a traditional tavern in Kalambaka or Kastraki where you'll have plenty of choice of Greek dishes to choose from.

Our driver and leader is Jim or Dmitry. We got Mercedes Veto. All along the way we learned roughly Greek's history by him, it was really helpful to understand more about Greece. He also gave us information what we are going to see and told us everything that we should know about the Monasteries. I would recommend you to choose Jim, nice ride, nice guy and gentle. Good luck to you and familiy Jim, from Thailand

The trip to Meteora was amazing. The convenience of having a driver who could handle the driving to/from our destination was wonderful. Our driver was extremely agreeable and helpful. However, we were surprised that he didn't seem to know anything about the sites we were seeing, though. We thought he would be more of a guide, but essentially was just a driver.

Wonderful time with Dimitiri (Jim)! He gave us a lot of historical/political/economic information about Greece. We stopped at the site of the "300" battle between the Greeks and the Persians and then went to the monasteries. Unfortunately it was raining pretty hard and there was fog but the monasteries were very beautiful and by the time we made it to the 3rd monastery the fog had lifted some and we were able to see the amazing rock formations - really cool! Definitely better to go by private car than the train. Long day but worth it.
