Catch the train to Kalambaka in the morning from the Athens railway station and enjoy a trip that will give you the chance to admire the beauty of the countryside. Arrive in Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the Meteora monasteries. Your driver will be waiting for you holding a sign with your name, and you will board a 19-seater VIP Mercedes minibus that will transfer you to the Meteora monasteries (Meteora is included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites). For 5 hours, you will have the time to explore three monasteries. Visit the thousand years old hermitages of Bandovas, learn the stories and the legends, and enjoy great views from the most panoramic spots. At the end of the day, your driver will transfer you back to Kalambaka, where you will have the time to stroll around and have a light lunch (not included). This tour exceeded my expectations! Katarina was friendly, witty, and incredibly knowledgeable about the Meteora area all of the Monistaries and the Hermit Monks. She not only grew up in the area, she studied the history in school, certified by her PHD. The weather was unpredictable, in this late November tour but somehow we had the best of luck and the fog parted each time we arrived at a photo stop. Our Driver, I didn’t catch his name was also very friendly and safely drove our group to the best lookouts. He even offered to take pictures. Thank you for an excellent experience

This trip is great and worth it all in all! Our tour guide and our driver are the best, they even helped us with taking pictures and they are very friendly and helpful. The only problem we had was how to figure out the train in Athens because it was quite confusing for someone who isn’t from here. We had to ask people about it so I think the solution is to go there earlier as you can so you won’t miss the train no matter what circumstance. The 4 hrs train ride to go and come back was okay as long as you’re prepared and have some snacks with you. I promise you it’s worth it!! I’ll come back again someday just to see the beauty of this place again.

Getting on the train was stressful as there weren’t signs in the trains with stops. We were rushed to get on and fortunately it was the right one. The tour itself was great. Katarina, our guide was so informative. She has a vested interest in the monasteries as her uncle was a monk. She has been in all of them and gave so much history. Highly recommended! If we had tried to do this on our own, we would have been so stressed and missed so much. Worth the money!
