Full description

Embark on an unforgettable guided day trip from Athens to Delphi, the navel of the ancient Greek world. Visit the Delphi Archeological Site and museum and see the Temple of Apollo, the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, and more. Later, get free time to explore a scenic village.

The morning of your trip, meet your licensed tour guide and depart in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. The drive takes about 2.5 hours going each way, so sit back and enjoy the passing scenery as you pass through the Boeotia plains.

As you travel, begin to immerse yourself in Ancient Greece as your guide tells tales about ancient Greek mythology, King Oedipus, God Apollo, and more.

During a guided tour through the archaeological site, see some of the most important and unique archaeological monuments, such as the Temple of Apollo and its oracle, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall.

Later, you can visit the Archaeological Museum of Delphi (entry fees paid on site), which hosts globally known pieces of art like the Sphinx of Naxos, the Statue of Antinous, the Siphnian Treasury, and the Charioteer of Delphi.

After the visit to Delphi, hop back on the bus to the multicolored village of Arachova, built on the mountainside. Get free time to arrange for lunch on your own at a traditional taverna (costs not included).

Take time to go on a stroll around the village’s narrow alleys, enter some artisanal shops for local delicacies, and admire the local hand-woven carpets. In the late afternoon, depart for your return to Athens, on another 2.5-hour drive.

What a fantastic tour. The drive is a bit long, but our guide made great use of the time by providing a lot of information about the areas we were driving through, and prepping us for the visit to Delphi. The tour of the site and museum were wonderful, and going with a licensed guide was critical to really understanding the site and its history. We were a group of 17 people and the transport was an extremely comfortable Mercedes mini-bus. The driver did an excellent job getting us out of and back into Athens while avoiding the worst of the rush hour traffic. My only negative comment is that after booking I noticed some fine print saying that guided tours of the site are not included for bookings between November and March. I hadn't seen this when booking, and the use of a licensed guide was the sole reason I chose this tour over a number of others so I was pretty upset. Thankfully, we did have a licensed guide after all, but perhaps that's only because we were a large group.

Our guide, Dionysus, was amazing - professional, knowledgeable, very good at shepherding our group. We so appreciated his perfect blend of information, mythology, local history & geography, and site knowledge. The journey was perfectly composed, Dionysus was responsive and very scholarly, and we loved the whole experience. Grateful for a local guide willing to share his country with us, exhibiting both a sense of reverence and down-to-earth realism. We learned so much and enlarged our respect for and understanding of Greece. Five stars +

This was an exceptional trip to Delphi. Angela was a wonderful guide, with a great personality and solid expertise in archeology and history. We really appreciated her thorough explanations of the archeological site and the museum. The lunch stop in Arachova was great, with beautiful scenery and excellent local food!
