Full description

Day 1

Catch the morning train to Kalambaka at 7:52 AM from Athens Larissa railway station. Upon your arrival in Kalambaka at around 12 PM, your English-speaking driver will be waiting for you at the train station holding a signboard with your name on it to transfer you to your hotel. In the late afternoon, the VIP minibus will pick you up from your hotel to join the Meteora Sunset Tour. Admire breathtaking views of Meteora and discover the hidden gems of this place on one of the best tours of mainland Greece.

Day 2

For the next morning, you may choose the activity you wish to participate in such as the Half-Day Morning Tour of Meteora to see the main attractions, the monasteries of Meteora with a VIP minibus or the Hiking Tour of Meteora. Experience amazing sceneries and visit monuments of the Byzantine period. After this morning tour at around 1 PM, the bus will drop you back to your hotel. Have the evening free to explore the area on your own.

Day 3

Early in the morning, a taxi will pick up from your hotel to take you to the train station. At 9:30 AM, the train will depart and arrive in Livadia station at around 12:05 PM. There, an English-speaking taxi driver will be waiting holding a signboard with your name on it to transfer you to Delphi. Delphi is roughly an hour drive away from Livadia, so you will arrive at the archeological site at around 12:35 PM, where you will be able to spend many hours exploring the ancient oracle, the museum and the small town. The tours was absolutely worth every penny. Once in Meteora, the views were out of this world. People were very accommodating and helpful. Sunset tour was totally worth it. However, we went in low season (October) and there were many people on the rocks, so I imagine it would be crazy in summer. The guides were so knowledgeable about the history of Meteora and answered all our questions. I recommend doing the hiking tour the following day if you don or have mobility issues. It was amazing. We didn’t do Delphi tour last day because our flight out of Athens was later that night and we became anxious that we may miss the flight.

This trip was nicely organized and we had a wonderful time. All of the tickets and information were sent to us ahead of time in a Google Drive. The train ride and transfer to our guesthouse were comfortable. They chose Boutique Holy Spirit and we had a wonderful stay there. The sunset tour was amazing. We wanted to do the hiking tour the next day but they booked us for the monastery tour instead. Make sure to tell them which tour you want to do as soon as possible. The tour guide tried to get us on the hiking tour but we were having a good time on the monastery tour so we stayed. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and kind. We had a nice amount of free time to explore Kalambaka and Kastriki. We had a private minibus transfer to Delphi which was fantastic. Beautiful drive. Lots of time in Delphi to do lunch, museum, and archaeological site. In the original instructions we were told that the bus from Delphi to Athens would be two hours but it was 3 and luckily we made our flight!

Meteora is stunningly beautiful, well worth the trip. Pros - Tour very well organized. Detailed instructions easily took you from place to place. The two tours in Meteora were similar but allowed you to get a full experience of the monasteries. Dimitri and Jim were superb guides. Sunset was beautiful. 300 stairs on day 2! Probably better to take the 5-hour walking tour if you can handle the activity versus doing both bus tours. 3-star hotel good location, clean, good breakfast. Transport from Meteora to Delphi by private transport was 5 stars! Thanks Cristos. Got to see the beautiful mountains. Don’t think we would have made the train connection otherwise. Delphi was an amazing site. 4 hours is adequate time, but booking a tour there would make it better. Be prepared for a bit of climbing. The 3 hours from Meteora, then 4 hours in Delphi and 3.5 hr bus to Athens was a lot in one day. Overall good tour for price and nice way to see area. Cons - bus back to Athens.
