Full description
London, Berlin, New York, or Paris normally come to mind when street art is mentioned. Athens, however, is often overlooked and yet is a city rich in graffiti art. Street art emerged in the Greek capital around 1998. The art form really took off, developing its distinctive style over the past 10 years, particularly as the country’s economic crisis unfolded. This 3-hour guided tour offers an alternative way to experience Athens and take a look at what’s happening at its core. A vested interest in art isn’t required to enjoy this activity. All you need is curiosity and receptiveness to the fantasy, colors, and meanings of the works you encounter, as you look at Athens in a fresh and unconventional way.

We had such an enjoyable morning on this tour. Nikos was a great guide - highly knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about the art, and it was so helpful to hear the context and history of the places we visited. We saw some stunning artwork and made friends along the way. I’d highly recommend this tour as the perfect way to learn about areas that you might not otherwise visit.

An excellent street art tour of Athens this October went down really well with our 12 and 15 year olds. We learnt lots about some of the areas of Athens which we hadn't explored by ourselves, and discovered some brilliant street art. Our guide, Nicos, was full of brilliant insights into the history of graffiti, the different styles of each artist, and stories about the area. Thoroughly recommended!

I found this tour particularly exceptional. Athens is covered in street art and this was the perfect way to learn more about its messages and the artists behind the works. As an art lover and one who grew up around street art and artists in Australia I was particularly interested to hear about its development in Greece. But more importantly, I wanted to learn more about the social and political issues and beliefs of modern Greece - which is found through the art. Nikos and the works he showed delivered that in spades. It was such a fabulous way to see the city and to get underneath its skin to learn more about its beating heart and what concerns those of my generation and younger.
