We departed the schedule by having a longer lunch in Sesimbra than expected, but this was no problem. The wine tasting was enjoyable, and the wines reasonably priced to buy. A good day, recommended. My friend and I did a wine tasting tour with Joao a few weeks ago, and it was incredible! Joao picked us up from our Airbnb right on time, and he drove us in a nice, clean van about an hour out of Lisbon to the wine region. During the drive, Joao was able to answer questions we had about Lisbon, wine, and various topics. Throughout the whole day, it was nice to have Joao to answer any and all questions we had. The tour included three tastings with a wide variety of types of wines. As someone who doesn’t personally appreciate fortified wines, I was happy that the tastings weren’t solely one type of wine. This was definitely a 5 STAR tour and 100% worth the money! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon and even remotely interested in wine.

Our group of 4 had the most fun on our wine tour with João! He is incredibly hospitable and made the experience unpretentious and very accessible to those with deep wine backgrounds and those without (like me!). It felt less like a “tour” and more like hanging out with a good friend, despite the age and background difference (we are four black/brown women in our mid and late twenties), which I think is a testament to his welcoming and upbeat demeanor. If you’re visiting Lisbon, please take some time to explore Setubal and taste some fantastic wines!
