The Salento Aquarium is located 50 meters from the sea of Santa Maria al Bagno, a seaside village overlooking the Ionian coast. It is configured as a "living museum" and offers a path with seventeen pools of sea water of various sizes, distributed in four thematic rooms. Fish, molluscs, crustaceans and any other form of life hosted, is mainly wild and is periodically returned to the sea and replaced thanks to the support of local fishermen. As in a dive, visitors discover the seabed and fauna of the Mediterranean Sea, interact with the animals and, accompanied by expert staff, have the opportunity to study the most important phenomena of marine biology in a light but scientific way.
