Krabi: Elephant Bathing and Huay Tho Waterfall Day Trip

2. Krabi: Elephant Bathing and Huay Tho Waterfall Day Trip

Get up close and personal with rescued elephants at Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary on a day trip from Krabi. Bathe, feed, and care for the elephants. Enjoy a delicious Thai lunch and cool down in the waters of Huay To Waterfall. You can also get your adrenaline pumping with an optional jungle ATV ride. After getting picked up from your hotel, head to  Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary. Start with a mud bath for the elephants. Afterward, you may wish to embark on an optional ATV ride through the jungle, with views of Krabi's mountains, rubber plantations, and palm plantations along the way. Finally, head to Khao Phanom Bencha National Park to admire the vibrant flora and fauna of the tropical forest. Enjoy a dip in Huay To Waterfall before returning to your hotel in the afternoon.

We had the most incredible afternoon at the Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary feeding and bathing domesticaed Asian elephants. We learned about the owners/trainers of the elephants, the Mahouts, who often mortgage their farms and pool their whole livelihoods to purchase an elephants ($50k+). They dedicate their lives to their elephant and spend 24/7 with them caring for them. However, in order for both the elephant and the Mahout to live, they need $$. So, they will often use their elephants to log or work them to the bone in elephany riding businesses. In order for both the Mahout and the elephant to eat, this organization uses the tourist dollars earned from the bathing and feeding experience to pay the Mahout a salary to "rent" the elephant. But instead of working long hours, the elephants get to eat, bathe, and chill in the presence of humans. The staff here are so incredibly knowledgeable and kind - an absolute must-do and SO worth the price.

Highly Recommended! Wonderful handling of the animals, great living conditions for the pachyderms. After a detailed introduction to the life of the elephants, we slowly approached them so that they could get to know our voice and our smell. Slowly the whole thing escalated until we ended up bathing with the elephants after rubbing them with mud (which is vital for their skin). We can only recommend this tour and would do it again at any time! Including fruit, snacks & drinks.

Incredible experiences with elephants and sanctuary staff. Animals well preserved, staff caring for both us and the elephants. I would go back there with my eyes closed. Luckily we were a micro group of 4 people which made the experience even more magical. Fruit, water, cakes and shower included!

This is an amazing activity and will be a lifetime memory. The staff are so knowledgeable and caring. To get up so close and personal with the elephants is a once in a life time experience. Don't miss it

Do not miss! Great, charging, incredible adventure! You'll learn a lot and you'll get to be so close to these gentle giants!
