Enjoy an exciting 1-day safari on a four-wheel drive from Alice Springs through the beautiful West MacDonnell Ranges to Hermannsburg, an Aboriginal community and historic precinct. Hermannsburg is renowned for its Aboriginal art collection, in particular the works of famous Aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira. Enjoy a leisurely tea in Hermannsburg, and then set off on your 4WD for the second half of the adventure. Travel down the bed of the Finke River, one of oldest water courses in the world, into the stunning Palm Valley. Admire the spectacular rock formations, such as the one known as the Amphitheatre, and the lush palm trees of the oasis rising out of the white sand. Keep your eyes peeled for native plants such as the cycad and the Livistonia Mariae. Enjoy a picnic lunch within the beautiful Finke Gorge National Park, and on your return journey, relax and enjoy the changing colors of the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges.

Experience the night sky above the ancient Australian landscape, and learn about the constellations in your astronomy tour. Paint by the light of the stars or moon in a unique painting class led by award winning tour guide, and artist, Anna Dakin. Spend a night sleeping in the most comfortable swags in Central Australia, and experience an authentic Outback camping. Explore desert waterholes, a 140 million year old comet impact crater, and the small Aboriginal community of Hermannsburg (Ntaria). This adventure departs from Alice Springs, and includes everything you’ll need for your art & camping experience. An adventure like no other, taking you along the oldest river in the world into an outback oasis. Follow the scenic track along the famous Finke River to the uniquely astonishing landscape deep in Palm Valley. Pass the amazing pinnacles of the Amphitheatre and through the beautiful Cycad Gorge before arriving at more than 3,000 giant Red Cabbage Palms. On the way enjoy a sumptuous European style morning tea with a selection of home-made buns and fresh coffee. Follow the Mpulungkinya Walk (5km, 2 hrs return) through this ancient oasis, along a river bed with towering palms and stunning lookouts from the valley escarpment. Discover Palm Valley’s unique environment including rare relict plant species and the spring-fed pools that support an array of unusual plants and animals. Your guide will also enlighten you on the cultural significance of the region to the local Arrernte Aboriginal people. On the 4WD track out of Palm Valley on the way to the nearby community of Hermannsburg, walk up to Kalaranga Lookout an easy 20 minute climb with spectacular views of a rock amphitheatre encircled by rugged cliffs. After the walk, head to the nearby community of Hermannsburg, known as Ntaria to the local Aboriginal residents. Established in 1877, Hermannsburg was a Lutheran mission for more than 100 years and the historic heritage precinct is wonderfully preserved today.  Hermannsburg is the birthplace of the renowned Aboriginal landscape painter Albert Namatjira, and the origin of the Hermannsburg School art movement. You will also have an opportunity to purchase art or souvenirs in the art gallery and gift shop before returning to Alice Springs after an unforgettable day in the Outback.

See Simpsons Gap through the eyes of an artist in this immersive watercolour painting class. Learn basic watercolour skills in a quiet sandy riverbed with award winning tour guide and artist, Anna Dakin. Watch the rocky ridges of the West MacDonnell Ranges turn a deeper red as the sun sets, hear an orchestra of birds sing from the tops of the river red gum trees, tune in to the peace of this special place which is an important spiritual site for Arrernte people. This evening excursion takes place just 15 minutes outside of Alice Springs at Simpsons Gap, a natural wonder that explodes with colour as the sun sets, making it is the perfect spot to paint with watercolours! In this workshop you will learn the basics of watercolour painting in a series of exercises designed to help you to loosen up and have fun.
