7 sights and activities in Alanya
With plenty of delights both in nature and culture, no wonder Alanya is such a popular destination in Turkey. Located on the beautiful Turkish Riveria, there's many reasons this is a great place to take a vacation!
1. Citadel
Overlooking the Mediterranean, the walls of Alanya's citadel were built by the Selcuks in the 13th century. At four miles long it completely surrounds Alanya Castle, which is pending membership as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
2. Pamukkale
Meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, these gorgeous mounds of salt are a natural wonder. Used as an ancient holy site in the past, today the hot springs attract visitors from all over the world.
3. Damlatas Cave
This cave is a great place to cool off from the heat! Its stalactites and stalagmites are 15,000 years old. It is said that the air inside the cave is good for sufferers of asthma.
4. Green Canyon Boat Trip
The Taurus Mountains are considered holy land. Nestled within them is the Green Canyon, where you can take in the scenery by boat and dip into the silky, clear waters yourself.
5. Hammam
If you want to relax but need to get away from the beach or poolside, why not treat yourself to a spa treatment at a traditional Turkish hammam?
6. Water Planet Aqua Park
Fun for all the family awaits at Water Planet, which offers giant slides, inflatable canoes, and even bungee jumping!
7. Red Tower
Known as the Kizil Kule in Turkish, the Red Tower sits on the harbor and is the symbol of Alanya. It houses the Ethnographic Museum of Alanya and there's even a brewery named after it!
Planning Your Visit
Damlatas Cave opening hours
Between 6:00AM and 10:00AM, Damlatas Cave is open only for those seeking to soothe their asthma.
Cover up
If you are entering any places of worship, remember to dress modestly - women should bring a scarf to cover their head, just in case it is required.
Market scams
Although there are a lot of markets with seemingly low prices, think carefully about how you spend your money - most vendors will be good-intentioned, but there are also those looking to scam tourists.
Turkish treats
Try some tasty local food, such as baklava (a sweet pastry) and lahmacun (Turkish pizza).

- As a resort town sitting on the Mediterranean, it lives up to its reputation as the city "where the sun smiles". While the summer months (June - August) usually provide long hot days, the spring is mostly mild but still sunny and most of the rainfall occurs in the fall and winter months.

What people are saying about Alanya
Not quite as advertised but still great value for money! It took a long time (over an hour) to pick up all the passengers but we then headed to the pirate ship for a cruise down the river. We stopped to spend some time on a deserted beach then back to the moore for lunch (chicken, rice and salad). Next stop was the bazaar for shopping and then short stop at the small waterfall which was nice but unimpressive. Would recommend.
I highly recommend this tour for people who would like a bit extreme. It was a great time with nice people from different countries. We went with jeeps, driving in mountains was amazing and a bit scary. Water fights between the jeeps was fun and very wet after. Swimming in ice cold water also was brilliant.
I highly recommend for people who looking to get some adrenaline and I am pretty sure you will get it. It was really good experience. If you will ask if it scary yes it is. But all pilots are professional and they know what they are doing. That's why let's try.
Very nicely organised, a lot of activities offered on the way. Not too much extreme, still quite a nice nature around. Take a swimming mask with you to protect your face from dust and mud when riding a buggy bike:)
Amazing raft experience, would definitely recommend! It goes little slow waiting for everyone but just have entertaining comedy people on the same boat, no diva’s and none who don’t paddle, it weighs you down lol
