Continue to the pseudo craters of Skútustaðagígar, formed when hot flowing lava met with ice-cold water from the lake. See the lava fields of Dimmuborgir, rich in mythical sagas and stunning to look at for the lava pillars and rock formations.   Discover the thermal waters of an underground river at Grjotagja, where you will stand on the continental rift between Europe and America.

We had a good experience. Guide was at the port on time and did a good job explaining the stops and moving things along. The guide was friendly and we never felt rushed. First stop, Goðafoss waterfall. I love waterfalls, and Iceland has no shortage of them. I’ve seen a lot of waterfalls in my life and this one is up there. Next, Skútustaðagígar to see the pseudo craters. Many hiking trails around these craters and it was beautiful. Also, we got to taste some authentic lamb stew! At the entrance of the craters, there’s a little Café shop called Kaffi Sel. They sell this amazing lamb stew (unlimited refills) and some local beer. I had lamb stew at some other ports in Iceland, but this one was the best (and cheapest). Next, Dimmuborgir. This area is made of lava fields, with various rock formations and caves. This is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions due to its unique looking rocks, the folklores, and the filming of Game of Thrones. Much more to say but I'm out of space.

Our guide, Daba, was cheerful and welcoming. The depth of her local knowledge and the way in which she looked after us throughout the day was such an asset to our experience. It was a day full of wonders, waterfalls, mud pots, spa resorts, sulphur coloured mountains and tortuously shaped volcanic outcrops. This was the highlight of our visit to Iceland.

This was a very enjoyable tour which was provided by Saga Travel but arranged by Get Your Guide. Our tour guide was Dabba, a woman who is a native Icelandic person and who was very knowledgeable about everything. She was fun and laughed all the time, and made the trip enjoyable for everyone. Our van was only half full - we enjoyed that! The only downside to the whole tour was the midgies at Lake My"vatn which were very annoying but thankfully didn't bite. And Dabba said there were hardly any of them compared to other years! The weather was also good, which was a big help. Dabba was very good about providing information on toilet stops, what we were doing next, and how we should explore the various areas where we stopped. Absolutely the best tour we have had in ages.
