Athens: City Highlights & Cape Sounio Private Combo Tour

4. Athens: City Highlights & Cape Sounio Private Combo Tour

This tour of Athens takes us to the most famous sites of the city, both ancient and modern. Undoubtedly the most famous landmark of Athens is the Parthenon. It is the ancient temple which was dedicated to Athena, the goddess that Athens got its name from. It is on top of the Acropolis Hill, which is visible from many parts of Athens, and around it there is the historical centre. Moving away a little bit from the area just around the Acropolis, we will see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament. These guards, known as Evzones, are the elite force of the Greek Army and until the Second World War they were known for their bravery and honor. The costume they wear was introduced by King Otto of Greece, inspired by the traditional clothes of the mountain warriors and bandits who formed the resistance to the Ottoman Empire. We will also see the stadium where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896. We will visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus, with only a few of its original 104 columns standing, and the monument known as the arch of Hadrian, a Roman structure dedicated to Theseus and Hadrian as the founders of Athens. Then travel along the coast, to the southernmost tip of the peninsula of Attica, Cape Sounion. A getaway that is very close to Athens and it is famous for its beaches, fish restaurants and the striking ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Set high on the promontory, the temple forms part of a triangle of ancient sites, including the Acropolis and the Temple of Aphaea on Aegina. They are all equal distances from each other as the crow flies, and on a clear day maybe you will be able to see the other two monuments. Sounio is also where Aegeus tragically fell from the cliffs when he saw the black sails that his son Theseus had forgotten to change and thought that he was dead. The Aegean sea was thus named after him. It is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, the white marble columns framed by the sky and the lovely blue sea!

Exclusive Private Tour To Delphi

6. Exclusive Private Tour To Delphi

For hundreds of years, pilgrims from all over the then known world made their way to the sanctuary of god Apollo in Delphi in the hope of getting a helpful answer from the mouth of the medium-priestess Pythia. On this Day tour meet your expert local guide dedicated exclusively to you and your group, at the Athens hotel or Piraeus port and depart in our fully air-conditioned vehicle and transfer you at the most important Archeological Sites of Greece? Oracle of Delphi Our first stop is going to be the monastery of Osios Loukas, situated in a picturesque valley teemed with olive trees. Byzantine monasteries are built in sites characterized by amazing natural beauty, always in harmony with the surrounding landscape, following the example of the ancient temples. In a landscape untouched by time, you will discover two magnificent Byzantine churches decorated with frescoes and mosaics, with their characteristic golden background (10-11th century AD). The Byzantine abundance of the monastery still functioning today was recently brought to light due to a successful restoration project. The monastery was founded around the middle of the 10th century AD by the monk Loukás from Stýri. His relics are exhibited in the Katholicon (main church of the monastery). They were stolen by the Crusaders during the 13th AD and kept in the Vatican for centuries. Then we will visit Delphi (The navel of earth). From ancient times Delphi was the attraction for many visitors and of course there were many reasons for this: the Oracle of Delphi became the heart of the ancient Greek world and the entire eastern Mediterranean, the Pythian Games, the Sanctuary of Apollo or just because Delphi was the Navel of the Earth. You will see the Roman Agora, walk along the Sacred Way, and view the monument of the Argive Kings, the Polygonal wall, the monument of Platea and the Temple of Apollo where the oracle resided. Above the Temple, you can visit the well preserved 3rd-century Theater. On the lower slope of the mountain is the Tholos, a building whose exact purpose is unknown but architecturally speaking is considered one of the masterpieces of the ancient world. Continue with the museum and its spectacular exhibits, among them colossal statues, golden offerings and a unique bronze charioteer. Enjoy a delicious meal in a traditional tavern. On the way back to Athens stop at the picturesque village of Arachova.Arachova is a mountainous village nestling picturesquely at the foot of Mt. Parnassos in Viotia, Southern Greece. It is the most cosmopolitan winter destination in Greece, a great favourite for passionate ski lovers and celebrities, or just first-time visitors who wish to relax in a dreamy mountainous setting with modern tourism facilities. After some free time for shopping and wandering around you will start your drive back to Athens.

This trip was amazing and definitely a must do if you're in Athens! Everything was great - from the boat, to the itinerary and timings, the views and islands we were brought to, but most of all, the crew was very friendly and obliging.Sam and his team took great care of us and made sure we were all very comfortable throughout the trip. The views and waters of the Mediterranean are to die for,and there are plenty of opportunities for swimming in the clear blue waters throughout the trip. Very enjoyable and super worth it!

The tour guides were amazing. The cook in the boat really did his job and the boat was safe and good facilitated. The captain was funny, for people who wants to enjoy the islands and other tourists, this tour is a great option.
