Montalcino: Private Brunello Wine Tour with Tuscan Lunch

4. Montalcino: Private Brunello Wine Tour with Tuscan Lunch

Our wonderful day exploring the Brunello wine region begins when you are picked up at the hotel and taken on a scenic drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside comfortably seated in a luxury vehicle. Brunello is produced exclusively within the Montalcino territory, and only from Sangioveto Grosso grapes, a Sangiovese clone perfectly suited to local conditions and before release, it must be aged for four years, at least two of which must be in wooden casks. The first stop will be to a cutting-edge Brunello winery where we will taste an amazing Brunello wine and sample the spicy, intense extra virgin olive oil produced by the estate. We will visit the winery’s grounds and most importantly, the historic cellars. Next stop is the charming town of Montalcino, where we can enjoy lunch in a typical Tuscan restaurant and then have time to explore the town’s narrow winding streets filled with artisan food and wine shops. The unspoiled character of the town of Montalcino and the surrounding countryside is impressive, and nowadays rather rare. No visit would be complete without a look at Montalcino’s famous fortezza, the four- teenth-century fortress to which Sienese forces withdrew when Siena was definitively conquered and annexed by Florence in 1555. The view from the ramparts is spectacular. On the ground floor there is a well-stocked wine shop where it is possible to sample Brunello by the glass. Later in the afternoon we will a visit another top rated Brunello winery. We can compare styles and techniques while learning more about this excellent wine. A short visit to Sant’Antimo Abbey may also be part of this wonderful excursion, before heading back to your Hotel.

A fantastic experience. My family and I enjoyed every single moment of the tour: The continuous and beautiful landscapes on the bus ride, the detailed and entertaining explanations of our amazing guide (grazie mille Andrea, sei bravissimo!), the marvelous walking tour in Montepulciano (what a gem in Toscana!), the delicious wine and food in Fattoria Pulcino, the breathtaking scenery in the temple of San Biagio, and (last but not least) the gorgeous streets and viewpoints in Pienza with a magical sunset as a golden ending of the day...simply one of the best experiences I've ever had. Thank you Andrea and all the people of City Wonders for this unforgettable trip! You're the greatest! Cheers from your Ecuadorian friends, the Baquerizo family :)

CityWonders did a fabulous job in organizing and coordinating this event. I say this because I booked a really crappy tour to Venice through viator/trip advisor, which turned out to be a rip-off, if not fraud! So, I have to say this particular tour to Tuscany that I bought through GetYourGuide, and conducted by CityWonders was a gem! The money paid for was well worth it. The Guide and driver, Anna and Giuseppe, were fabulous. I would recommend anyone to use these companies in Italy. You have to be careful with what you book/buy here locally because companies with good reputations such as viator/trip advisor use third-party local tour companies that rip people off! So, GetYourGuide and CityWonders get 5 ⭐️ for the Tuscany trip.

Very fun! The food was great and the tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. I didn’t feel uncomfortable as a single female going either as I made friends !

This trip was amazing! The best I had. Definitely my dream come true of seeing how amazing Tuscany is. Pictures do not do justice at how beautiful this place is

I went on this trip with zero expectations and turned out to be the best decision of my stay in Rome. Andrea and the staff were amazing.
