Full description
Embark on an adventure and cruise to the stunning Frankland Islands National Park, an island archipelago located 45 km southeast of Cairns. Visit the beautiful Normanby Island, offering small groups the opportunity to snorkel and dive the healthy fringe reef. Start as you drive down to the meeting point at Deeral and travel south through UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest mountains, fields of sugar cane, and the iconic Walsh’s Pyramid which is the highest freestanding natural pyramid in the world. Board a luxury boat, the Turtle Islander, and enjoy a leisurely 30-minute cruise down the colorful Mulgrave River, lined with rainforest and mangroves. From the mouth of the river, it’s a short 10 km open water crossing to the Frankland Islands, the shortest crossing of any Great Barrier Reef day tour. This archipelago is a natural haven for all kinds of wildlife, and a protected national park.  Take in the stunning Normanby Island surrounded by pristine sandy beaches, with rock pools and healthy fringing reefs which can be snorkeled from the beach. Relax for 4 hours and enjoy the breathtaking nature. Snorkel or dive the reef, hire kayaks, paddleboards, or simply soak up the tranquil beauty of this special place. You can also join the marine biologist and Master Reef Guide for an island walk and discover the diverse wildlife that flourishes under the water, in rocky pools, and in the rainforest. A wonderful and very relaxed day on a sandy island. Staff were excellent and very professional. The water was divine and lunch was exactly right for the location. Time to get to and from the destination was similar to other trips I have take and I enjoyed seeing the canefields and river environment on our way to the island destinarion.
