On your trip, you will experience the world of the Lipizzan horse, walk through the stable and visit the Lipikum Museum dedicated to various aspects of the stud and the Lipizzan breed. Škocjan Caves is a cave system in Slovenia which together with the underground stream of the river Reka represents the most important natural phenomenon of the Karst region and one of the largest underground canyons in the world. Due to its exceptional significance, Škocjan Caves was entered on UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites in 1986. Its colourful underground world is adorned with giant stalactites, water rapids and beautiful lakes. View the world’s largest underground canyon and walk across the bridge which is situated 40 meters above the underground river. The panoramic view at the exit of the cave will certainly leave you speechless. At the end, visit the Škocjan Caves Regional Park, an open-air like museum, which is well known for its ethnological, karstological, geological and archaeological monuments, as well as for its natural and cultural heritage. Several days after the Postojna Cave we also visited the Skocjan Caves. The two caves are so different that they are definitely worth visiting. Postojna is tailored entirely to tourism, the stalactites are bizarre and spectacularly beautiful. Skocjan, on the other hand, is the elemental force of nature, not pimped up, but completely original. Unfortunately it is not allowed to take pictures there; on the other hand, it is also an option to look at things with your eyes and not with the camera. The visit to the Lipica Stud had the small drawback that there were no horse demonstrations that day. Anyone who attaches particular importance to this should find out about the days on which such demonstrations are offered before booking the tour with the organizer or the stud. The visit was worth it anyway, because there was a detailed German-speaking tour and you had the opportunity to come into direct contact with the horses in the stables.

We LOVED the Skocjan Caves. We've visited a number of caves around the US and this one was spectacular in comparison. This tour does require some fitness as there are a lot of stairs and a lot of up & down throughout the tour. It was unfortunate that they don't allow any photography during the tour but you can see why, it would really slow down the tour. The area around the caves was very beautiful and luckily we were able to see the beginning of the fall colors. The Lipica Stud Farm was interesting but it would've been nice to see some kind of performance while we were there.
