We greatly appreciated the coach tour from Te Anau to Milford. This was the highlight of the tour whereas we had anticipated that the cruise in Milford Sound would have been the higher point. Brian, the coach driver and guide was exceptional in giving informative and lively guidance covering the environmental history and geomorphological information. Nothing short of impressive. As well, critical information on safety was clearly delivered. He was personable and articulated clearly. The coach was also of a high order - comfortable seating angled for optimal viewing and with clear roof for maximum appreciation of the forest canopy and the high and precipitate rock walls immediately proximate to the road.
We were picked up on time in Te Anau. Bus was comfortable. Our driver (Andy) was very informative about the area and stopped several times on the way to Milford sound for photo opportunities. This is a beautiful area and well worth a visit. We also received as part of our tour a packed lunch which was very nice. The boat captain was also very knowledgeable about the area and went slowly through the Fiord out into the Tasman sea where he turned around and came back on the other side. There are a lot of waterfalls. We saw dolphins and fur seals. There is Tea and coffee facilities on the boat.
The bus ride from Te Anau (in our case) was great, the driver (Tanya) provided and informative and, at times, humourous, commentary and conducted us safely through magnificent countryside to and from Milford Sound. Once at Milford Sound, we enjoyed a Mitre Peak boat tour out as far as the Tasman Sea, with a very helpful commentary on all aspects of the landscape and animal and bird life along the way. The scenery was breathtaking and made us aware of the beauty of this hidden part of Aotearoa.
Wonderful guide who feed us so much local geographical and historical information, as well as Maori mythology, flora, fauna, bird life, plus weather patterns and effects etc. Descriptions of the different walks were accurately explained so that the correct choice of a tramp could be made based upon one's physical ability. Obviously Milford itself lived up to all our hopes and expectations. Would highly recommend exploring with Trips and Tramps.
Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The cruise was beautiful and we were lucky that the weather improved as the day went on meaning we could choose the option of climbing to Key Summit. The views up there were amazing and it was well worth the hike up. We really enjoyed our day trip and would definitely recommend it.
