Istria Day Tour From Zagreb

3. Istria Day Tour From Zagreb

Be collected at your accommodation in Zagreb and drive for approximately three hours to Pula. This is the biggest city and the center of the Istrian peninsula. The city was founded by an ancient tribe in the 10th century B.C. and it was well known by Greek travelers and sailors so is mentioned in many Greek myths. In the 1st century, the Romans made the city strong and today the vivid remains of this era can be explored. Pula Arena is one of the best-preserved amphitheaters in the world and will take you back in time as you imagine gladiators battles. Other examples of Roman architecture to discover are the Temple of Augustus and the gates to the city including the Arch of the Sergii and the gate of Hercules.  Continue your journey for 45 minutes to Rovinj. This city was also founded by the Istrian tribes. It was built on a small island close to the mainland and in the 18th was connected to it. It was ruled for five centuries by Venice so both the Italian and Croatian languages are spoken in the city. During this period of occupation, walls were built around the city and the remains are standing still today. Rovinj is a real gem and adored because with every step you take you are compelled to take another photograph. Travel another 45 minutes to Porec. The Old Town is almost 2000 years old and is most famous for the Euphrasian Basilica, from 1997. It is on the UNESCO world heritage list and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Istria. Notice the roman influence and architecture in the city as you walk through the main streets, still preserved in their original form.

Great Tour, Even Better Tour Guide What a great day. So glad I chose to visit Istria as a day tour from Zagreb. Not only are the coastal cities beautiful but they seem almost unreal in their perfect amalgam of cute buildings, beautiful seaside harbors, and Roman monuments among narrow cobblestone streets. My wonderful guide Tanja, smiled at my American references to the towns being too perfect to be real…almost like something from the creative minds of Disneyland. Speaking of Tanja, what a fantastic guide. She had historical facts aplenty, and her sense of humor infused our day-long outing from Zagreb with smiles and a sense that time was passing too quickly. Not to take away anything from our visits to Pula, Rovinj, Porec and her secret Viking Fjord, I could fully enjoy a day with her if she were just driving the highways of the beautiful Croatian countryside. Fantastic day trip to Istria, made even better by a wonderful Tanja. I hope to travel with her again someday.

A private excursion to Istria from Zagreb. It is a long trip, about three hours but the trip was very interesting and enjoyable with Tanya. She explained part of the trip to me and gave me the option to choose one of the destinations depending on my preferences. We visited three towns, in each one of them he gave me the corresponding explanations, helped me with the photos and even managed the reservation of the restaurant in Rovinj. The excursion itself is worth it. Rovinj is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque and beautiful cities in Ukraine and the Pula amphitheater (the best preserved in the world) is absolutely spectacular. A great excursion and Tanya a wonderful guide…!!!

We had a great day out with Tanja. It was an early start (7am) which was worth it as it meant we had longer in each place and we missed the traffic. Tanja was an excellent guide, she was so friendly and had lots of interesting facts and information to tell us. We saw beautiful coastal towns, including the incredible Roman amphitheatre in Pula. We had a wonderful day and couldn’t recommend Tanja or this tour highly enough.

The trip was easy to arrange with Tanja, at short notice, who was very helpful. My guide, Ivica, was great to speak to, and gave good information and tips about Istria, the places visited, and also Croatia and Zagreb in general. The tour is made to your requirements ensuring that you visit all the places you want to see. I would highly recommend booking tours with this company.

Cheap and efficient way to travel from Zagreb to Split, with a great experience in the Plitvice Lakes, and a surprisingly good lunch. We did not get a bottle of water though and lunch was very late so make sure you bring your own water and a lot of snacks
