Your tour starts when you are picked up at your hotel lobby or the agreed meeting point in an air-conditioned minivan. On your drive to Higuey, you will be able to see some of the countryside and sugar cane plantations. Feel free to ask your guide questions during the drive.    Once in Higuey, you will visit The Basilica Cathedral Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia, a Roman Catholic minor basilica and Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Altagracia patroness of the nation. You will also visit the local market and the main park to see how the locals live and the beauty of the city. After your visit to Higuey, you will be driven to Bavaro where you will visit some shop so you can buy souvenirs for your friends and relatives. Once you finish shopping, it is time to go back to your hotel.

Sunset in the Dominican Republic doesn't come more atmospheric than this – sitting astride your horse, gazing out over the leafy tropical terrain from the top of a mountain. This evening ride comes with a dinner of local favourites down at the ranch and a few fun surprises thrown in, too. Juan, one of our local guides, says, ‘Everyone Dominican's grandmother has her own recipes for local specialities like sancocho, a meat-and-vegetable stew. One version for special occasions has seven different types of meat, plus herbs and spices. It's supposed to be a good hangover cure.' A briefing and welcome drink will get you into the spirit of the evening before you saddle up and set off on a leisurely sunset tour on horseback. Enjoy the scenery as you weave through remote farmland and lush green rainforest. It's a great way to get back to nature, and you'll be rewarded with sweeping vistas of the landscape as you head up into the mountains. At the top, there's time for photos, making the most of the low evening light as the sun sinks towards the horizon. After riding back down to the ranch for dinner, you'll try some local dishes like Juan's favourite sancocho stew, crisp plantain ‘tostones', yuca and burgers. Plus, you'll get to watch a cigar-rolling demonstration if it takes your fancy. Then, after dinner, you could chill out on one of the rocking chairs with a brandy or have more fun with a lasso-throwing lesson.

Our plantation is located in the community of El Caño, Uvero Alto road, Macao; less than an hour from most hotels in the area. It presents 500 square meters of different plants, especially coffee and cocoa, besides tobacco, pineapple, sugarcane, papaya, plantains, and others. The walk starts with a visit to the typical house, with the guide explaining how they live, a walk through the areas and how they prepare their meals in a firewood stove. After this visit we continue with a walk inside the plantation, which by its nature, sunlight can barely penetrate. We then stop at coffee spot where your guide will indicate the whole roasting process and will offer tastings. We will continue along the path of the plantation and reach to the stop of the demonstration of mamajuana. Here you will learn which plants are used in the manufacture and the process of the preparation of mamajuana. Continue thru the trail in the plantation and stop at the coconut oil preparation spot. Your guide will explain about the vanilla plant and a little of its history and attributes. Arriving near the end of the entire route of ChoCafe Plantation, you will also learn of the process and preparation of tobacco, leaf types and flavors. We will take a walk between, sugar cane and other plants and will stop at the History of Chocolate to listen to the history of cocoa from its origins until today; the cacao bean process and its nutritional and healing values, derivatives such as tea, chocolate, chocolate bars and others.
