Sorrento: Day Tour to Pompeii Ruins & Mount Vesuvius

1. Sorrento: Day Tour to Pompeii Ruins & Mount Vesuvius

Travel back in time to the devastating day in 79 AD the brooding volcano of Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the Roman city of Pompeii beneath molten ash.  On arrival, your expert guide will take you on a 2-hour tour through the remains of this UNESCO world heritage site remarkably frozen in time for almost 2,000 years. One of the most popular destinations in the world, you will hear stories about The Forum, Thermal Baths, Lupanare, Greek Theater and plaster casts of the bodies of Pompeii people. Following a typical Naples lunch of pizza at one of Pompeii’s cafés, you will then be driven close to the summit of the mountain that destroyed it. From there, it's just a walk to the lip of the crater. The only active volcano in continental Europe, Vesuvius has erupted many times, but it was the destruction of Pompeii and its surrounding towns that made it most famous. Climb to the top, and walk around the crater, taking in the atmosphere of the smoking mountain. Enjoy the stunning views over the Bay of Naples. You will return to Sorrento at approximately 5:15 PM, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, the cruise ship, or the railway station.

Our experience was wonderful Francesco was amazing and very enthusiastic gave us a brief history on our way to Sorrento and Almafi Coast. He was patient gave us plenty of time to visit and explore the town made us feel very comfortable and welcome from a welcoming song to laughter. All together we a beautiful tour. Ana our archeologists at Pompeii was very knowledgeable and her passion towards Pompeii was nice to see. Love the history given about Pompeii and she cover the main points as she mention it’s a big site so not everything can be cover or seen but she makes sure we get to learn the main interest and informative point about the history of Pompeii. Thank you for our great and amazing experience.

Great experience to see two iconic areas of interest in one day with great lunch thrown in. Good to have a taster of both Pompeii, our guide was amazing and made the visit quite immersive, very knowledgeable with funny points of information, and Vesuvius, but... Would love to go back to Pompeii again as 2 hours was not long enough to see hardly a 5th of the city. Please note comfortable shoes a must and be prepared for a steep walk to the crater of the volcano, you'll not regret going up (once you've caught your breath!!) Views of both the crater and the surrounding countryside are amazing. Lunch was a simple and very tasty pizza, maybe the best you've tasted!

Excelent organisation, great guides, good food at lunch, great price for the experience

Overall, very knowledgeable guide and outstanding experience.
