8. Ho Chi Minh City: Cu Chi Tunnels and City Tour in 1 Day

Starting with a pickup from your hotel in District 1 or District 3 in Ho Chi Minh City or from the convenient meeting point, depart Saigon as you drive through the pleasant countryside before arriving at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Before entering the tunnels, watch a short introductory video showing how the tunnels were constructed then spend the next hour exploring the underground maze. Also on display are various traps, the remains of an American tank, and numerous bomb craters made by 500lb bombs dropped by B52 bombers. You’ll then return to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving at approximately 1 PM to enjoy a lunch of beef or chicken noodles before embarking on your Ho Chi Minh City tour. Start by admiring the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, built between 1863 and 1880 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam and its two 40m towers, topped with iron spires, dominate the city’s skyline. See also the Central Post Office, the country’s largest post office and another example of French colonial architecture. Then, move on to see Independence Palace — also known as Reunification Palace — one of the most important buildings in the city. Here on April 30, 1975 the American War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam. Our guide Jack has a huge knowledge of world history and started the tour by explaining the political conjunctures that led to the wars faced by Vietnam. A real class, but very entertaining and spiced up with the guide Jack's funny comments. The whole tour is very well organized. In the morning we got to know the tunnels and some other ingenious strategies that enabled the Vietnamese to win the war. After lunch, simple but hearty, we head to the Mekong Delta: a spectacular place! We visit local communities and get to know their culture and the products they manufacture. An excellent cultural tour that supports the economy of local communities! This tour is highly recommended! The description of the tour is ambiguous, so I was in doubt whether there would be pick-up and drop-off at the hotel, but after I arrived at the meeting point at 7 am, I learned that this service is included. You don't have to worry about that if you're worried.

Timothy my tour guide was excellent, he gave a full explanation of all the many sites we visited. His English is perfect, like the queens English. He often asked was all ok and the pace of his driving. The tour was exceptional we visited beautiful temples you would not know they were there, we covered a vast area. Safety was paramount throughout the whole day. We had plenty of photo opportunities. I would highly recommend this trip it is one not to be missed and worth the price. Wonderful memories of an amazing trip. I learnt so much of the Vietnamese history and culture.

The personal stories, the look at life how it is really lived and the genuine friendliness of the people we met made this a really different tour. My tour guide, Thien was so enthusiastic and imparted quite different information to the usual facts and figures type

Harry was excellent. He spoke english very well and had a great attitude. I'd recommend him to anyone!
