Kyoto: 3-Hour Fushimi Inari Shrine Hidden Hiking Tour

1. Kyoto: 3-Hour Fushimi Inari Shrine Hidden Hiking Tour

Take the only tour at Fushimi Inari that goes off paved paths and onto actual forest trails. Avoid the crowds of tourists trying to get a good photo and enjoy a personal hiking experience in a small group. Discover hidden bamboo groves, secluded trails that lead to old and hidden altars, and the beautiful evergreens around Fushimi Inari Shrine and its thousands of red torii gates. The tour begins at Tofukuji Station. From there, wander into a quiet neighborhood and visit small shrines on the way to the mountain. Then, take a trail to see a wonderful bamboo grove, and connect to the main path filled with the famous vermilion torii gates. Reach the summit of the mountain, which is covered in the shrine altars, then venture back down the mountain on a forested trail, visiting smaller shrines on the way to another bamboo grove. This will lead you to the most famous area of Fushimi Inari, perfect for a memorable photo. Finally, finish at the main shrine at the base of the mountain, where you can enjoy some local street food before you continue your adventure in the wonderful city of Kyoto. Half of the tour is walking in the forest, so you don't get sunlight directly.

Arashiyama: Bamboo Grove and Temple Tour

2. Arashiyama: Bamboo Grove and Temple Tour

West of Kyoto, a 25-minute tram ride away, you’ll find one of Japan’s most beautiful locations. The imperial family built retreats in Arashiyama solely for its scenery – and 1000 years later, nothing has changed. Marvel at majestic rivers and leafy peaks, and, with help from your host, experience these sights like a local: from cruising on a rowing boat through the sparkling waters or from a scenic lookout point high in the mountains. Explore Tenryū-ji Temple and its unchanged garden from centuries ago and exit into the seemingly endless, emerald-glowing Bamboo Grove, winding dreamily uphill. You could walk across the glittering Katsura River and spy excited macaques at the Arashiyama Monkey Park, or you could wander between Zen temples, breathing in the fragrant air, and celebrate the spirit of ancient Japan. The bamboo forest might be the main reason to visit Arashiyama, but with a host, you can see (and do) so much more. Rent a boat in the pristine lower Hozu-gawa area, row down the river between lush green mountains, or hike up mountains to see the cityscape from a scenic lookout point. Your itinerary will be fully personalized according to your preferences. Once you’ve booked, someone from the local partner's team will be in touch, so just let them know if you have any special requirements. Book an early time slot if you wish to escape the crowds.

It was a great experience as they showed us places that we wouldn't normally visit on a regular trip to Kyoto. It seems that they usually only explain in English, but it was very helpful that they also explained it in Japanese for us. MANABU's explanation was very easy to understand and kind. Thank you very much.

This was a beautiful way to see and learn about Kyotos history and culture. Probably the most friendly Tour Guide I have ever had and she really made this 3 hour journey so worth it. I have already started to recommend this tour to friends that are thinking of going to Japan

Hikari did a really great job. She has great knowledge and speaks very good English. The tour was definitely worth it, also to avoid the tourists, since the hike starts at the back of the mountain. You should have a solid level of fitness as it can be strenuous.

Was an amazing experience!. Akiko was great, had an excellent knowledge, and knew the shortcut to avoid the crowd!!!

Excellent adventure to avoid crowds and get a unique experience !
