Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

5. Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

Come and see enchanting scenery unfold before your eyes in a secret place full of history and atmosphere. This emotional journey conducts visitors through the new section of the underground of Naples. The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of the rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was not completed and, during the Second World War, was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil where we find handwritten messages of wish and desolation of those who lived there. In the tunnels you will also find statues dating back to the fascist period and a unique exhibition of many cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years and then freed from piles of rubbish, arranged and illuminated ad hoc along the route.

Our guide was Luciano leone - it was a fantastic tour and much more interesting for being with someone who had clearly worked as an archaeologist in Herculaneum for a long time. He was so enthusiastic about the area, and his passion was infectious. Well worth the money- we wouldn’t have had half the experience without his knowledge.

The whole trip was really well organised from start to finish. The tour guide at Pompeii was excellent- really knowledgeable and easy to talk to. After lunch we climbed to the crater at Vesuvius- we were fine but some people may find it a bit difficult. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip and well worth the money.

Erstklassige Führung durch Herculaneum in englischer Sprache mit einem Archäologen (Luciano) dessen Begeisterung für die Thematik auf einen überspringt. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Very easy to use and the directions to meeting place worked great !!!

The guide, Luciano Leone, was brilliant! His English is excellent!
